Default Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG to debut at 2007 AutoRAI

Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG to debut at 2007 AutoRAI
Monday 26 March 2007

Mercedes Benz will unveil its sledgehammer CL65 AMG coupe at this year’s AutoRAI show in Amsterdam this week. Powered by a 6.0L V12 developing 612hp and an earth-moving 1,000Nm of torque, the new CL model is guaranteed to be a real crowd puller and may even manage to lure away some of BMW’s ‘M’ faithful .

The 0-100km/h should take less than 4.5 seconds, while top speed is an estimated 300km/h although it’s unconfirmed whether the 250km/h speed limiter will be installed. Besides the addition of the mammoth engine, AMG engineers have also modified the car’s aerodynamic package and suspension including adjustments to the Active Body Control System.

This means the special AMG model planned to be unveiled at next month’s New York Auto Show is likely to be a different car, hopefully a reveal of AMG’s new Black Series. Sales of the new CL65 in Europe will start next month with an estimated price tag of €301,500 !!??

I saw a CL 550 on the freeway and it looks much better in real life than in pictures. I'd have to say the same would, more likely than not, be true of the CL 65 AMG.

I agree even though I have the old body style. I must say the car looks alot better in person.

I took one of our project cars to a photoshoot and there was a Black one there with wheels and a kit, I think the car looks alot better in darker colors.

612hp V12 Biturbo

Translated by WorldCarFans.com

DaimlerChrysler presents at the Amsterdam AutoRAI in The Netherlands the new Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG for the first time. This version is an absolute top-of-the-line model, not in the least because of its power source: a six-liter AMG V12-Biturbo engine, which produces an astounding 450 kW/612 hp and at least 1000 Nm torque.

The new Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG, besides the S 65 AMG and SL 65 AMG, is the third model which uses the powerful V12-Biturbo. This engine pushes the coupe to great achievement: an acceleration to 100kmh in 4,4 seconds, in 13,3 seconds it will hit the 200kmh mark. The top speed has been electronically limited to 250kmh. Peak performace of 450kW/612hp is available between 4800 and 5100rpm. The torque of 1000, which is also electronically limited, is available between 2000 to 4000rpm. The engine is very responsive, but due to its easy-going character is also very suitable for relaxed cruising in a high gear.

The CL 65 AMG is a true AMG: special AMG body styling, 20inch AMG rims and AMG interior styling point out the special character of the car. In regards to technology, AMG has plenty to offer too. The car has a special AMG suspension, which uses their Active Body Control system. PRE-SAFE is featured on the car to protect its driver and passengers as standard, as well as the powerful AMG braking system, especially altered to deal with the high power. Changing gears happens through a 5-speed AMG-Speedshift with pedals and Direct-Select. In the center console there will be an option to switch between Sport, Comfort and Manual. Not only does this alter the gearbox, but also the stiffnes of the ride and AMG-suspension. The AMG-sportexhaust with double chromed tips deliver the specific AMG-V12 sound. The CL 65 AMG is conform EU and American standards.

The CL 65 AMG has a fitting interior with AMG seats with massage function, an ergonomic steering wheel and a AMG-combi-instument cluster with “Racetimer” function. The analogue clock in exclusive IWC design is definitely an eye-catcher. The interior is finished with sport pedals and a wood finish.

The CL 65 AMG will cost round about 300.000 Euro.

I know even in Europe, the same model can sell for different prices due to sales tax differences, just didn't realize is THAT much more for Netherlands. Do you know much are they selling this model for, say in Germany or France ?

In the U.S., the previous CL65 is under US$200K, I really don't expect the new one to be significantly more . . .

In The Netherlands they add a 45% car tax and a 19% sales tax on the car.
Most of the times the cars in Germany are like 1/3 to 1/5 cheaper.

Wow, 45% plus another 19% tax? So a total of 65% additional tax on the base price???

Hmm the front looks like their minivan, maybe it's just me, but that V12 sure makes up for that
