A More Convenient Truth: Al Gore Trades In Lexus For A Ford Hybrid
Looks like Al Gore's decided that it may be a bit inconvenient for him to be telling all this truth on the environment while driving a (what we're assuming is a non-hybrid) Lexus. The former Veep's following his boss and thinking Ford first. Gore's trading in his ToMoCo-made Lexus for a brand-spanking-new 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid in order to show that he's going a bit more green. That leaves us wondering whether Gore's throwing down with a vehicle made by a 'merican manufacturer because maybe he's thinking of changing his mind on the whole "not-running" thing. Either way, considering the comments we've heard about the amount of energy it takes to run the rest of his personal world, sounds like he's at least making the attempt at going greener in his own life. – Ray Wert

So he bought a vehicle that gets no more than 27 or 30 MPG (depending on 2WD or 4WD) to make a statement about his concern for the environment? Shouldn't he have gone with a compact car that gets 40+?
What a stooge. This guy needs to just go away.

Something about this stinks... seems like Ford made him an offer too good to pass up. Probably something about driving an American made vehicle blah, blah, blah... Basically, something stupid that Ford would say. After all, he is a "Good Ol' Boy" from TN. He can't be seen driving a Japanese car...

Big deal. The Escape Hybrid ( Ford's only Hybrid to date outside of its sister Mercury Mariner ) uses Toyota technology that Ford installs under license.
Nonsense. One of the largest auto plants IN Tennessee...and one of the largest employers in the state, is the Nissan plant at Smyrna, which, unlike its sister Nissan plant at Canton, MS, produces fairly reliable vehicles.
