New CIVIC Type R ( + MUGEN Type-R )
Come Friday, March 30, the new Civic Type R will go on sale in Japan. Based on the current Civic 4-door, the Type R is powered by a screaming, normally aspirated 2.0-liter four cylinder (K20A) that eclipses 100 hp/liter, producing around 225 ponies at 8,000 rpm and 159 lb-ft of torque at 6,100 rpm.. A six-speed manual transmission feeds power to the front wheels -- 18-inch units shod with a set of Bridgestone Potenzas. Four-piston Brembos are visible between the spokes and provide the car's stopping power. Body rigidity is said to be 50% better than that of the previous Integra Type R (Acura RSX), and the car weighs in at 1,250 kg (2755 lbs) with no A/C installed.

Honda's U.K. pricing for the Type R is curious. The company regards itself as a quality rival to VW and even Audi. It seems strange, therefore, that at £17,600 ($34,278), the Type R should be pitched below the Ford Focus ST ($35,047) and the VW Golf GTI ($40,082). This is surely a tacit acknowledgement that the Honda doesn't have the firepower to command a premium.

btw, that civic would probably run circle around the IS250 even with the FWD layout.

OC 335i would prefer an IS 250 and others for this price. He did not say it was a better sporty car. Different priorites for these cars, though they are priced around each other.
As for the car, I am a total sucker for Honda Championship white with the red type-r badges. Love the look. I find the Civic to be one ugly car but this doesn't look so bad to me. I am sure it will be very fun to drive.

I'm sure the Civic would run circles around the IS250 on the right track. I've owned 3 Integras, 2 Civic HBs, 1 S2000 myself. I'd still take the IS250 for $35,000.
The U.S. Pricing I'm sure would be less but Honda is still offering their "R" cars for a premium with a little hp increase and low torque. If you look at the market, the rest of the manufacturers have significantly increased their HP ratings. Honda simply has not. I'm obviously a big Honda fan (based on my previous car ownership) but IMHO they need to step up their figures. The S2000 and NSX are both grossly underpowered by today's standards. Honda can do better IMO (see: POWER not handling).

What is the price of the S2k and IS250 in UK?I love the white with the red R badges also, but I HATE the look of the Civic 4drs. I think it is ugly. I like the Civic coupe much better.

Do you know how much the LS cost in other part of the world? For that price I would rather get an S550 + IS250 + S2k here..

Probably true but regardless, Honda's HP figures are low for their pricing on their new cars. They haven't increased their power by much in the last several years. I'd rather get a used ITR (yes somewhat rare, less so in Cali).

It no longer exists, but it's much superior to these new Civic/RSX soapboxes with macperson stuts. ITR had LSD and had perhaps the most neutral handling unmatched by any other FWD. ITR's engine is kind of played out by todays standards, but back then a 1.8 i4 with 190hp and 8K redline was much more revolutionary compared tot he upcoming CTR, and especially comparing to the RSX-S.

1.8L I4 195hp (USDM) with 8400 RPM redline...
my buddy use to have an ITR. Such a great car. It'll run around other cars in circles all day long. The engine is rev happy. The light weight and awesome drivetrain makes it a nice daily driver and track car at the same time. I just wish they didn't get stolen a lot.
