Are you saying that the 4.0L V8 is not going to pass smog check or need to be rebuilt every couple thousand miles?

Come on... the BMW V8 is still a "premium mass market engine" if I got your definition correctly. The one you mention for the GT series, however, is a modification version that is used for the track -- no need to worry about NVH and government regulation.

By "mass market", I meant that the 2GR-FSE is based off of the regular 2GR-FE, which is a very cheap engine to build, and Toyota sells thousands upon thousands of 2GR-FE equipped vehicles each month. By "premium", I meant the 2GR-FSE has the D4-S injection system exclusive to Lexus vehicles.

The BMW 4.0L unit is based off of the 5.0L V10 in the M5. Neither of these are mass market engines by any means. The 5.0L is a specially-built, race-based engine, and the 4.0L unit is based off of it. There's nothing "mass market" about either of those engines.

I merely pointed out the race-spec 2GR-FSE as to show the capability of that engine. This was in reference to point that the power BMW's 4.0L unit makes is "insane". If a stock 2GR-FSE was modified to allow to it to rev up to 8000 RPM, and nothing else was changed, it would make close (if not more than) to 400HP.

I can also say with certainty that the 2GR-FSE costs a lot less to make than the BMW 4.0L unit.

We should be comparing apples to apples here. The proper comparison to BMW.s 4.0L unit is the 5.0L 2UR-GSE in the IS-F. That engine too, uses several race technologies, and is a specially built engine. We don't have the details on that engine, but don't be surprised to see it use some exotic materials. Another good comparison would be the V10 that will be in the LF-A production car. That will be a specially built engine directly derived from Toyota's F1 engine know-how.

It is? How do you know?

With the super high HP/RPM you won't see high torque#s. The M5 engine is a prime example at only 383 lb-ft of torque.

I give up... I don't have to agree with your own definition, and I don't argue for argue's sake...

I don't have a link at this time, but I remember seeing a technical PDF document which showed that the 2GR-FSE weighed somewhere around 399 lbs, which is lighter than the BMW 4.0L unit.

Anyone with access to technical documents for the IS350 can likely confirm this.

It's not ugly, but it's not great looking as E46 M3 either. So, i'd say it's a disappointment compare to E46. But you know it's going to perform super awesome.

Care to explain? Is it the lack of electroluminescent gauges that bothers you?

This car could have 900HP or 800lb-ft or torque but it's as
ugly as sin with that horrid bump on the head, I mean hood.

Absolutely horrible, Bangle. Just when I thought you could
do no worse you have proven me wrong.

the lack of any feeling that this car costs $60-65k sitting from the inside

mixing real carbon fiber with a fake CF looking texture, what a great idea that was

Not really, but the fact that I've taken much nicer looking dump than this interior bothers me.

Just joking.

Seriously, this is not an interior for today's 60K car. This is for more like 10K taxi cabs.
