Production BMW M3 revealed

Come on... the BMW V8 is still a "premium mass market engine" if I got your definition correctly. The one you mention for the GT series, however, is a modification version that is used for the track -- no need to worry about NVH and government regulation.

Are you saying that the 4.0L V8 is not going to pass smog check or need to be rebuilt every couple thousand miles?

The BMW 4.0L unit is based off of the 5.0L V10 in the M5. Neither of these are mass market engines by any means. The 5.0L is a specially-built, race-based engine, and the 4.0L unit is based off of it. There's nothing "mass market" about either of those engines.
I merely pointed out the race-spec 2GR-FSE as to show the capability of that engine. This was in reference to point that the power BMW's 4.0L unit makes is "insane". If a stock 2GR-FSE was modified to allow to it to rev up to 8000 RPM, and nothing else was changed, it would make close (if not more than) to 400HP.
I can also say with certainty that the 2GR-FSE costs a lot less to make than the BMW 4.0L unit.
We should be comparing apples to apples here. The proper comparison to BMW.s 4.0L unit is the 5.0L 2UR-GSE in the IS-F. That engine too, uses several race technologies, and is a specially built engine. We don't have the details on that engine, but don't be surprised to see it use some exotic materials. Another good comparison would be the V10 that will be in the LF-A production car. That will be a specially built engine directly derived from Toyota's F1 engine know-how.

I don't have a link at this time, but I remember seeing a technical PDF document which showed that the 2GR-FSE weighed somewhere around 399 lbs, which is lighter than the BMW 4.0L unit.
Anyone with access to technical documents for the IS350 can likely confirm this.

This car could have 900HP or 800lb-ft or torque but it's as
ugly as sin with that horrid bump on the head, I mean hood.
Absolutely horrible, Bangle. Just when I thought you could
do no worse you have proven me wrong.

Just joking.
Seriously, this is not an interior for today's 60K car. This is for more like 10K taxi cabs.
