Looking to Buy Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG
Maybe Mike can help me on this one. I'm considering buying a 2001 MB CLK55 AMG (I would upload the picture but I haven't figured it out yet) The car is black on black loaded. I had this car for the week-end and I fell in love with it drove so sweet. I never owed a Benz lots of people say their trouble but a couple of the fellas own some they say the cost of fixing a problem is hell. Thats the only thing I worry about. I want to get the Benz but 2 things will get me in trouble owning a Benz in the QC is a woman magnet and the speed lots of tickets. Fellas help a fellow member out. Are they reliable, cost on working on one any recalls and any other coupes comparible.

I assume you will need new suspension component pretty soon. The engine and tranny, if they have been running for 7 years without issue, I will say they are pretty sturdy -- some early engines on the S55 (both non SC and SC ones) have some engine oil overheat problem.
But yes, it's an arm and an leg to get the Mercedes fixed for any kind of issue. And don't expect to receive Lexus/Toyota level of service.

Fantastic car, we got a member in SELOC with one, running low 13s in the 1/4. Check out www.mgworld.org
As stated, the maintenance might start to bite on an older benz, especially if the previous owner ran it hard.

why not ask the question on MB forums where guys actually own MB's. I think they have better ideas.

Nice choice.. I love the look of that year CLK.. and the 55 is nice.. not to sure about quality and all that.. you'd have to ask the MB boys, like everyone suggested.. Post up some pics when you get it.

If it has been maintained well I say go for it. The story you heard about piston blowing up are from the folks that heavily mod their engines, ie Kleeman, they are a alternative to Brabus and make a lot of performance products for MB for about 1 tenth of cost but with only one catch. No warranty.
