Default Detroit 2008: Buick Riviera Concept makes it through Customs

General Motors has released new photos of the Buick Riviera Concept, which reminds us that we are that much closer to getting our first up-close look at this concept designed in China. The Riviera, which made its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show last year, will make its first North American appearance in Detroit in just a few days. Designed at GM's Pan Asia Technical Center, the Riviera will supposedly set the tone for the next generation of Buick vehicles. Design highlights include carbon fiber bodywork, gullwing doors, and a futuristic interior with blue ambient lighting. We doubt much of that will ever make into a production vehicle, but we do give two thumbs up to the team that designed the exterior.

Because, like I've said many times in the past, more than just seniors buy them. They are not just Grandpa and Grandma vehicles.

I'm not sure I agree that it is better then current Buick products. Not only is it too bullet-shaped, but gull-wing doors are notorious for design and quality-control goofs. Few automakers, even the Italian exotics that regularly use them, have really perfected them. They tend to have seal, rattle/squeak, and leak problems.

The Enclave seems to be bringing a younger buyer to the Buick brand. According to JD Power 41% of buyers are age 36-55. 8% are 18-36.

The exterior isn't too bad, but the interior is just rediculous.

ooo no, that'll scare the seniors.

it looks not half bad imo... but I don't know why they put that door... and intro it in china...
I mean I know they're popular in China, my relative got a Buick there too... but they've so gotta scrap that door, people aren't going to be able to get out with many tiny streets, parkings etc... if they do actual lambo doors, that might be fine, but still a bit over done....

Well, how about the NON-seniors that are buying Buicks? There are plenty of them, too.

yeah, but they'll lose a big chunk of Buick buyers for that particular car... though the younger buyers might recover that portion...

Show me 1 person (besides Tiger Woods) under 50, heck under 40 and I'll buy you a beer or smoothie
Now a young person driving their dad's buick don't count. Maybe the Enclave (which is nice I admit) but a mega cruiser???
We had a buick skylark in the 80s, big upgrade from our 79 chevette

You know I like to joke around with you on that mmarshall...the same thing about you and the jocks in their mustangs

I had two of them before I was 20 years old.....mine, not my dad's. Loved both of them. My best friend had a Buick and an Oldsmobile. I've known a number of people under 40 since then who drive them. The seniors-only image is a bunch of nonsense.

Thanks for the beer offer, friend.....but I don't drink alcohol.

I wish Buick would go back to the red, white, and blue triple-shield logo instead of doing it in all-chrome like on most of their newest products.
