I, personally am dissapointed. The market may love it, and I have no doubt it will sell, But I'm not willing to accept the 900lb weight gain. FOR MY PREFERENCE, might as well get an SUV.

Is the **** available, or will become available for the LS460L touring? That i'd be interested in.

Lexus knows what they're doing, they had to make that 600hL exclusive.

The new LS looks best lowered anyway, so that means gutting the suspension, unless you just drop it with springs, which would be silly. The **** option might preclude you from being able to add aftermarket coilovers. The electronic suspension is probably directly tied to specific Lexus suspension components.

But those lights will soon be sold for some outrageous price in the aftermarket, and some Luxo Mag is gonna do the first projector-LED mod on the 460, and it's gonna look sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Not really following the 600h is not worth it claims being made here because the LS460 can be optioned almost the same way. Lexus seems to be following a proven formula used by the others in this class and adding more if you ask me. Using the Mercedes as an example an S550 can be optioned to the same exact specs as a S600. The only differences I'm seeing is a full leather dashboard, a V12, and V12 badges (but correct me if Im wrong, Im not seeing any other differences). Is that really worth the extra 35-40K over a S550?? I think for an extra 10 grand to get quite a few extra options in the 600h is pretty damn good.

From a price perspective you can also look at the LS600 as a competitor to the S550 as well as the prices almost overlap.

I will say its weight gain does seem a little crazy, but Im still confident that when we see test with actual production models, performance stats will be different. Just look at those tests of the preproduction LS460's and there long braking distances compared to the actual production models braking distances.

Its only one review. I dont expect every single publication to fall in love with it.

But it is interesting how everyone (magazines and a couple members) is so critical of the car (more so than any other car). Which isnt a bad thing at all. This is Lexus first 100K car, everyone wants it to be perfect. Its competitive and they are going about it in a different way with the hybrid system. I'm just happy that there are competitors other than the Europeans in this segment. And the fact that quite a few of them are already sold shows that Lexus can build a 100K car that will sell to the masses.

Wow-ser, whats the point again? If the LS460 is 95% of the LS600 in thirst and acceleration. Greenies want to pay another $20K to look green but aren't. This car takes untold more power to make (extra mass and batteries) that in all likelyhood won't ever be greener than a non-hybrid LS460.

Also, don't forget the price which is off the hook, yes I know the Bentley, MB/Audi/BMWs with V12s are even more money and more thirsty. But is that the kind of argument you want to win? Well it's cheaper than that car that costs 5x the price of a typical car (our car only costs 4x the price of a typical car).

Last but not least it weighs 5 thousand (whatever else) thats into full size pick-up truck territory. OMG

You can't compare the mileage of the two, because we don't have 2008 EPA numbers for both cars yet.

Lexus claims a highway MPG of 22, which is 5 less than the 460 gets right now. That's a significant difference.

Yes but 600h is a beast on highway compared to 460. I don't think 460 can match rolling acceleration of 600h and if there is "only" 5mpg difference it's not that bad. Actually it's not bad at all. Maybe someone can pull up MPG numbers of competitor V12s and V8s?

the V12s will get in the low teens in the city. So point taken that the LS600 is green next to most V12s. But compared to the same car (LS) with a V8 it's not overwelmingly quicker, and although it has more power and powerband is good, 800 lbs is a lot to pay for that (IMO).

I think the main point (IMO) is the hybrid (complex) does not seem to be doing over-welmingly much for what you pay in price and complexity. Same for many hybrids. My point is maybe they do save a smige of gas but for the cost difference how much gas you will be able to buy?

Again, you're missing the point. The estimated mileage that Lexus predicts for the LS 600h is based on 2008 EPA testing. As mentioned, ALL vehicles starting from model year 2008 have to undergo a new EPA testing procedure. The LS460L and LS460 are both model year 2007 vehicles. Thus the 27 mpg highway EPA number for the 460L is based on the old testing method. When the 2008 LS460 and LS460L models come out, their EPA numbers will go down. For example, the 2007 RX350 FWD had EPA numbers of 19/25, and the 2008 RX350 FWD has EPA numbers of 18/23. They dropped because of the new EPA testing method.

On top of that, the LS460 and LS460L do not have AWD available (yet), but the LS600h does have AWD. That also must be considered when comparing the fuel economy.

Edmunds says the car is responsive, handles well, and achieved better slalom figures than a 460L. Despite the weight, it's more agile than a 460L. Plus, I'm sure that people living in snow States will appreciate the permanent AWD.
