2009 Mazda6 Spied (update pg. 2)
The cleanest shots yet of Mazda's next mid-sizer.

TheCarConnection.com's spies caught the redesigned Mazda6 running on a secluded side street, within spitting distance of Ford's Detroit engineering operations.
This is the most complete, most revealing Mazda6 prototype spotted to date. This new 6 appears larger than the current model, confirming earlier sightings of cobbled-up test mules which hinted at added length and width for the second-generation model.
The styling of the new 6 is fuller, and more voluptuous than today's model, with a rounded greenhouse flowing into a sloping backlight and a rather short rear deck. The hood sweeps up from a still recognizable Mazda grille, and is flanked by prominent front fenders that mimic everything from Mazda's RX-8, to the MX-5, up to the CX-9. When the camouflage comes off, the new 6 should look right at home in the Mazda family.
The headlights and taillights are quite visible on this prototype, and look very promising, indeed. The current Mazda6 was a successful model on many levels, and may have saved both Mazda and its parent Ford, which uses its platform extensively in its revamped lineup.

Mazda has quickly become one of my favorite mainstream brands. Their driving driving dynamics, overall quality, design, and interiors have come soooo far. When I went to the autoshow, I was EXTREMELY pleased and surprised with the new CX-9. They did a fantastic job with it.
This new 6 should be great

OK, now I know the current 6 share a very similar drivetrain to my Fusion, but I tell you what, when my Fusion was in the shop( of course) and I had a 6 as my beater rental-I really did like that car. It scooted, it handled very well, nice interior, just overall a fun ride.
I have had 4 Mazdas, B2200 (good and damn reliable), 626 Turbo, RX-7, and RX-7 II turbo-all three were fun but horrid in reliability.
I hope they do something about those bag pipes coming out of the rear bumper.

Lookin a little bloated.
LOL at whoever said Mazda-y. Cause thats the way I felt to. Theres an underlying quirkiness about certain Mazdas that I really dont like. Hard to explain. Like the RX-8, or the Mazda 3 hatchback, or the minivans. They are just...wierd.

Funny you would say that, when the 2IS & the Lexus LF-S concept came out, I heard many in car forums said they remind them of the Mazda6, & the Infiniti FX headlights look similar to the Mazda6 too, & the current Mazda6 came out before all the above.
