I can somewhat relate. I was in my friend's Infiniti G35C auto and under 4k RPM, it felt slow. Lots of noise with no speed. But once you get over 4k RPM, the G35C is very quick.

I also test drove an IS300 a few months back. Below 4k RPM, the IS300 feels strong/torquey. I can see why the OP thinks the 350z is slower; given the fact that the torque gives you that feeling that you're going fast. However, Once the IS300 passes 4k RPM, it feels like it's huffing and puffing just to get to redline.

thats gotta be it, when i was using tiptronic in the auto 350Z, it was limiting rev to around 4K
it was nothing spectacular at the lower end
im sure the manual wouldve been much quicker once u can hold the rev to get its potential out

So? The S2k weighs about 400lb less than the 350z either way.

S2k weighs about 2850 lbs
350Z convertible's weighs 3550 lbs

thats about 700 lbs of difference

both measurements are curb weights
350Z coupe weighs around 3450 lbs

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2008/...le.fullTrimId=
it was the grand touring convertible that i tested

its not just the curb weight that comes into play too
body rigidity of convertibles also is an important factor when it comes to handling

Exactly, it doesn't matter. The S2K was developed as a soft top convertible, whereas the 350Z was first developed as a coupe only.

i think 700 lbs would matter

anyways, my point is, the 350Z i drove wouldve been slower than any S2K out there on a track

the stig needs to run these 2 cars on top gear!

You can't compare a S2k to a Convertible 350z because the weight kills it. So the video above has the coupe and still beat the s2k with some of the best drivers and if you notice the driver of the 350z wasn't even trying hard as the s2k was. slow shifts, not redlining each gear, etc.

I also do not agree that a fully loaded 3400lb 350z would be slower than a S2K, because from that video it out right killed the s2k without even trying hard.

S2000 will school 350Z on autox for sure, handling wise S2000 will beat the Z.
Track the Z will have more chance with straight lines

Not per that video. Have you seen the best motoring test of a autox situation? The 350z still beat the s2k

Dont you love the Z evolution. It gradually got heavier as it changed generations. I agree with everyone else. You should test drive a stick.
I just dont like the body lines, but its performance isnt horrible. Just reserve a C7 and be done with it :P

Is that 61k CAD?

Video... no offense, being a Z owner and driven s2000 for so many times, also look up the class for the Z (bs) and S2000(as), S2000 is in higher class.
S2000 is light, better balance. Not talking trash to my own car...i still love it, but it is what it is, I cant lie to myself.

One video does not make the case. I've driven both and have owned a S2000 for several years. You don't even own the car. Maybe you should read that thread more carefully.

The nismo Z was faster than the amuse s2k and the porsche cayman S in the slolam and emergency lane changes by a few seconds (very significant!). The nismo Z was overalll a better car than the cayman S.

s2k might be better balanced and lighter but it doesn't have the HR engine or the VQ period.

You don't own the Z with the new suspension and HR engine.

And again a s2k will not run 13.3 bone stock. or be near that without FI

Well, you are comparing modded cars, which is gonna change the story. A fixed car comes down to tuning of the suspension works, engine works. Having a 600hps s2000 on track I dont think it will do any better, if not worst. S2000 is lighter with 240hps, 350z is heavier with 300hps, I am not gonna do math and such to prove how many lbs does each hps carrying... I would never believe which is a better car by looking at videos, just like I wouldnt rely on magazines with 10pages of GM ads and believe the review of the car being the best in the world.
Back to the topic is, to test drive the 6speeds and see if she thinks the Z still not impressing her.
