Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG to push 500 hp ?

As competition heats up in the performance sporty sedan section, Lexus is getting ready to bring out the IS-F. BMW is already pleasing the crowd with their new 2008 BMW M3, and Audi is hard at work preparing the new Audi R4. With such a strong lineup on the way, Mercedes-Benz is really hoping to push the envelope with the next C63 AMG. How about with a 500 horsepower C63 AMG?
Auto Motor Sport is reporting that the next Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG will be powered by a 6.3 liter V8 engine that is capable of producing up to 500 horsepower. It will also have a sexy back with four exhaust tail pipes.
No word on when the car will be unveiled but we’re putting our money on the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Can’t wait to see how it looks.

Wow. ok.
Im all for big HP.... but what does this mean for the next gen Eclass 5series and GS?
This thing needs to get a cap, and engineers need to start looking at reducing weight, rather than increasing hp

I knew it was too good to be true. Our “insider” is reporting that the C-Class will not have the reported 500hp, but a bit less - 450hp. By so many horses, the 50 shouldn’t make a big difference, but it would have been nice to have the extra power. The interesting and logical reason for having less than 500hp is that they don’t want the C-Class to have more power than the E63 AMG. Every E-Class owner would probably be complaining that they paid $20k more and are slower than a C-Class driver.
The “insider” is also reports that the front bumper will look different from the normal bodykit, and that the hood will have more muscle. No doubt that this will make the car look different than the Avantage and Elagance, giving the AMG owners a unique design that will make it stand out next to the regular C-Class vehicles.
At least Auto-Motor-und-Sport is right about the 4 exhausts, but I could have guessed that one too. Overall, the AMG version will look similar to the picture above, which is great news.

I don't get why they reduced the HP to deliberately place it under the E-Class in the speed pyramid.
Wouldn't it just make more sense for a smaller car to be faster and more agile?
