The ecotec is a decent motor, but out of curiosity are you really that impressed by it? 240-260HP out of a turbo 2.0 has been done at least a decade ago by;
-Subaru EJ20
-Mitsubishi 4G63
-Toyota 3S-GTE
-Nissan SR20DET
most are extremely stout, a few of them able to approach 500bhp on stock internals

Still - all just said the turbo ecotec was an impressive motor to me and I got some reply about how other vehicles have been putting out that kind of power with apparently that kind of potential for 'well over a decade', which is to insinuate 'been there, done that'. When the fact is the turbo ecotec is on par with current day offerings, which is impressive to me since GM previously had just about nothing in the way of worthwhile 4-cylinder options: performance, or otherwise.

You can't buy that today unless you buy a used 2006.

OK, to be honest your question appeared to be worded in a rhetorical sense - as to say I'm stupid to be impressed by the turbo ecotec because japanese motors have been producing that kind of power reliably for well over a decade, which just isn't an accurate statement. But since you've clarified that it wasn't a rhetorical question or a statement, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

How many of those specially prepared engines still use anything stock but the engine block? I'll bet that everything else has been replaced by aftermarket and/or custom fabricated parts.
