Another 328i question, this time for a 16 year old
im betting some of you read the last thread about my mom leasing a 328. its a beautiful car (unfortunately no adaptive xenons/sport pack/man. trans.) but i love it. I was thinking of selling my sc400 and getting a used '00 ish 325-328 for about 10-11 grand. i had to pay for my sc4 myself, it was 5000, and it was from mowing lawns for a long *** time, im really not spoiled. i got a guy getting approved for financing in the next few days and buying my car for 7200. not a bad 6 month ownership. i was hoping my parents, now that ive driven for about 6 months with no tickets or anything, would put in about 3 grand for a better car for me.
but now, my dad doesnt wanna put in the money, he said he might put in some money on a new car lease payment around 300/month.
good news to me... but it supposedly gets better, my mom would put in some too. he said to look for a safe, reliable, practical car. well when i heard this i thought of everything except the practical part, a new 328i 6 spd. manual with adaptive xenons and sport pack!!!!
apparently, this is $303 a month how cool is that?
i dont know if my dad would spring for it but that would be no doubt a cool *** car
heres the car:http://www.bmwusa.com/byo/byohome.ht...=XAB70BMC053A0
and the payment supposedly is 303/36 months/6000 down.
what do you guys think, and what are some other new cars around this price that could better suit me?
thanks,
vince

Um, buy a used or CPO E46 if you're tight on money. I think you can lease CPO BMWs also, although I dunno how good the rates are.
If you're gonna lease, why are you putting so much as down payment? However, I guess if you're into leasing, there really isnt much to compare to in this segment, since the lease rates on other competitors aren't as good and don't include free scheduled maintenance.

6000 down is CRAZY. Thats the reason the monthly payment is so cheap. I'd never recommend putting so much down. My sis was looking at 328xi coupes a few months back. They too had a special that was advertised with low payments but once you go in to the dealer and ask them about the details...........it was 4,000 down and 10,000 miles a year, not 12. When she asked about the exact same car (also keep in mind was a base model with no leather or anything else) but $0 down, the monthly payment was over $600.
I wouldn't recommend getting a used one either. Its going to be out of warranty and when something goes wrong, like any car will when its older, it'll be $$$$$$. You're 16 and I admire you for working hard to get your money. But with your responsibilities with school, its not feasible for you to also work enough to pay for repairs on that thing.

Well, it depends on how budget stapped you are. You can get a 2001+ 3-series for around 20k these days on the private market. I myself will be looking at one of these next year. There's not that many serious issues that plague the 3-series and plenty of stuff is DIY contrary to popular opinion. However, money does need to go into preventative maintenance, and a careful check of vehicle history is important.
I think there's a site like swapalease where you can take over someone's lease, if that interests you.

If you do decide to go the e46 route--as I'd recommend, since you could own a nice car for less than what it'll cost you to have to give back the new one--hit me up via PM, I have a 2000 323i that I love to death and do ALL the work on. Maintenance is actually quite inexpensive if you do all/most of it yourself, and pretty easy too. I did the $13-1800 60k service myself with some extra (non-required) items for about $300 in less than 6 hours.
And don't worry too much about insurance. My 3er is the cheapest vehicle I've ever insured. Not quite sure why, but it is.

ok i just talked to him, and he said no bmw.
basically b/c he drives a mazda and doesnt want his kid in a nicer car probably.
he said if i was looking at a toyota or something like that with 1700 and 279 month hed say yes, but no bimmer.
he pretty much said it could be sporty, but not a sports car, and not a luxury car.
i told him the bimmer had free maitanence, 30 mpg, but still no.
what else could i use?
and what other cars could i look at?
