How is my analogy void?

You used roush/saleen as examples - both aftermarket, like dinan
The Cobro is a special model, like the IF-S will be.
I'd say the cobra is a special model too in that less than 5% of mustangs are cobras.
In any case, the Cobra is supercharged. If both motors are supercharged, i think they'll perform similarly.

The argument is moot anyway since the original comparison is v6 to v6.

I see the Cobra as more of an SS Camaro. They are rare.. but you can still find them.

Saleen on the other hand.. well thats hard to come by.

Well, you've never driven a Ford Taurus, Ford Tempo, Chevy Malibu, etc then.

I know it's not my driving style or maintenance habits, because I've always been able to achieve (or improve upon) the mileage estimates in the Hondas I've owned, as well as the 2 BMWs. The S2000 I owned would regular reward me with 30+ MPG in mixed driving, even though it was rated at 25 MPG highway.

I really think there might be something wrong with the Lexus because the engine performance is pretty lackluster for how much torque it puts out. But like Threxx mentioned, good luck convincing Toyota of that.
If that's the case, there could be very well something wrong with the car. Lots of things can hamper fuel economy that may be hard to spot: fuel leaks, agressively running the A/C all the time, even a clogged or blocked air intake. A blocked air intake or dirty air filter can make a big difference in fuel economy.

I would troubleshoot step-by-step to try and find the problem.

Taking it back in the day, Ford Tempo, or how about a Mercury Topaz?

Maybe the 1983 Ford Escort is your flavor

Even if the IS 350 is .2 seconds slower than a Cobra, that is an incredible feat to have 2 less cylinders and be a luxury car. That is actually pretty sweet.

I like that bodystyle Cobra as well

I've driven all those cars, and they were all more exciting (barely) than my mom's 2001 Camry LE with the 4cyl and auto trans.

How so? The Camry not only outhandles those cars (non SS or SHO models) but provides a smoother and more confortable drive than those. The Camry has better brakes plus it doesn't have 5 different rattles at the same time. All of them had more straight line power than a 4cyl Camry. That's about the only edge I give them. And if you want a V6 Camry, well, there is no edge that those cars hold.

I had a Ford Tempo in the 90's and if you want uninspiring, look no further. My 1995 Camry feels like a Maybach compared to that junk. The Chevy Malibu's also fit that bill. Rented one a few times and it was one of the worse cars I have ever driven. It handles more like a smaller Chevy Astro van.

Yeah, as opposed to a waterwheel right? 10,000ft-lbs of torque? If you're serious, you completely missed my argument. Torque isn't what accelerates you, its the car's ability to apply torque over time.

No you don't.

Maybe a Cobra with a pulley and exhaust. But thats not stock. Its like people talking about a "stock supra", but neglect to mention its got the spring mod, downpipe, catback, and a few other things.

STOCK S/C prev-gen body Cobras run mid-low 13s, and 12s with DRs or a really good launch on regular radials. Trust me. I live in cobra-tuning central. Johnson motorsports was located about 10-15 minutes from my parents house. Two of my good friends worked there. I know exactly what those cars are capable of and have seen my fair share. A 4000lb boat that makes 380whp stock isn't fast enough to run 113mph traps.

With all that, a Mustang better be doing better than 12.4 with a 113 trap. So living next to a shop makes you the expert, I apologize.
