Here is a small part of the follow up.... Here we are on the splendid race track Mas du Clos.
The track was still damp from the previous evening rain, but our driver friends are very good.
The drivers started teasing each other about which car was best. (One of the drivers is competing in regular races, almost every week end).
After going over the details about each performance aspects of the cars, they decide to hop on the track.
2 warm up laps before letting the cars loose. Valentino lets the Porsche driver thinks he has a chance but then, after 2 laps, the GT3 is behind the SL by a substantial margin. The Porsche driver tried to come back on the SL but to no avail.
Happy of the racing but still sore from the loss to the SL and Valentino, he decides to come back and try to race a Gallardo SE, with the same end results. He then raced against some Diablos and he put them to shame.
Later in the day, I got in the car with the Porsche driver to do a couple of laps. I’m surprised of how smooth the car is. The 2wd setup changes the driving dynamics of the 997, it’s quite fast and the brakes are good, but not as good as the CC of the SL. The driving is not so subtle, as the back easily wants to snap and the car being always really close to the security barriers and drifting the car is extremely easy. A top speed of 255 km/h (160 mph roughly) was reached at the end of the straight.
The GT3 is a great car and I salute Porsche for building it. However, the SL is still a better car.
