Hmm.. reminds me of an accident that occurred near my elem & high school (they were across the road from each other).
Some guy in an Audi A4 made a left turn too fast and understeered. He plowed up the curb and into some rails. The rails impaled the car AND the driver AND the rear passenger.
Amazingly, the driver and passenger were alive. The driver was impaled around the gut area and the rear passenger.. well let's just say, he won't be passing on his genes....

Seems like the door was able to open and close fine, meaning it didn't go through the driver. That is one lucky driver

Let's just say, the rear passenger stopped the pole from reaching the trunk
Or in other words, it went through his crotch.
