Default Something that has always baffled me about Mercedes fans/owners...

Since the SC 430 came out, I feel like the Lexus people have gotten so much beef for it being ugly, a "jellybean", odd looking, the worst looking Lexus, and the story goes on and on.

I've noticed that most of these criticisms come from Mercedes fans, and I just want to know if I am the only person who feels like they blatantly ripped off the SC body style in the current generation SLK. Since the SLK came out I've made comments here and there, but I was sitting next to one in traffic and aside from the details it really looks like an 8/10ths scale SC.

yeah...they really don't look alike.. stance, proportion--the SLK is a super mini SL if anything, not a SC in disguise

Right off the bat, the SLK has more lines on the body. Compare the doors and the hood for example.

Can't see the differences. If anything, it's more like the TT because of its roundedness.

Did you mean 'Can't see the differences?', in reference to MPLexus301? Or did you mean can't see the similarities in reference to yourself?

Well, i kind of see the similarities in the oval-ish headlights, the pillar for the windshield, and the overall shape.

IMO the SLK definitely looks better....especially in the front end.

The biggest problem with the second-generation SC's styling is not so much the competition from the SLK as it is its own predecessor.....the FIRST-generation SC, which completely blows it away in looks.

Quality-wise, however, either model of the SC will probably trounce the SLK on reliability. M-B has serious problems in this area, especially electronics and hardware.

I lol at the SC, and that coming from someone who drives one.

Lexus needs to seriously redesign this thing.

And I'm with mmarshall I guess, I'd like the SLK more than this car.

I agree with all this, although the last sentence I find a bit overblown. They had problems on some models, but not all, and from what I've been reading things have gotten a lot better in the last couple of years.

LOL, I also think the SC is a jellybean. Not necessarily ugly, but
bland and in need of a SERIOUS refresh.

On the other hand I think the SLK is by far the ugliest Benz with
that snout. It is almost Z4 ugly.

It's a polarizing design, but bland is the last word I would use to describe it.

I agree it's overdue, with all it's competitors having refreshed/upgraded on a much larger scale

I agree, with the exception of the C-Coupe.

Maybe so, but the results have not yet shown up on Consumer Reports' reliability databases yet. I will be more inclined to believe it when I see actual printed results......I have a great deal of respect for CR's databases and the methods they use to get them. And though, of course, different models from the same manufacturer can have varying reliability records (Infiniti is perhaps the best example of this), in general, CR still shows M-B down at the very bottom, reliability-wise, with Land Rover.
