ok, i was thinking maybe a t.c. if they can be had for 10k now, also, the 02 wrx sounds nice. and the e46 still looks the best lol, im gona go check the link in shockers post.
edit, saw the link. it just sucks there all 323's..im gonna look at scions now i guess. i might just keep my car. i love it except for the "dildomatic" transmission as many people on here call it haha

02 WRX...watch out for the "glass transmission" and dumb kids raising the boost like none other.
IS300 with manual transmission, good luck finding one for 10k. They started MT transmissions in the States from 02 models.

Another co-worker of mine just bought an 01 IS300 with 80k miles on it for $15,000 out the door.
They come with a 2JZ-GE engine which is the same block in the SC300 and GS300 which you can find here on CL with 175k+ miles on them and still running strong. Just make sure maintance has been done to it. I myself have never seen one for $10,000 but g/l anyway man.

this is your first car correct? an E46 323 should be more than enough for you then. but as with any other BMW, if not properly maintained, it's not worth it.

The WRX tranny is the weak link in the drivetrain but the engine is very strong.
They started manuals in 2001, my boss has one.

There is not a single gen1 manual transmission IS300 in the entire US on autotrader under $12.5k let alone $10k.

ok, well is the tiptronic pretty responsive? does it shift right as you hit it? I wouldnt mind getting a higher mileage one because i know the engines run forever, and its not like theyre that expensive to swap a new one in.

I recall driving a IS300 with the clutchless manual (E-shift), and in manual mode it had the usual lag. In addition, it overrides or doesn't respond to some commands from the steering wheel buttons. There is no +/- on the shifter itself, but when you put it into M you must use the steering wheel buttons. The electronic throttle seemed a bit funky too. But I liked the inline-6 engine a lot, and the styling was cool.

I don't see practicality as one of your requirements, in which case a manual 2000 MR2 Spyder would be my top choice. Easily outhandles everything else in the price range and looks good doing it.

That was my point exactly, hence why I mentioned DECENT.
