Here is what a E46 323i can do against a WRX.. Who needs engine swaps when you can add a simple chip to bump up the power at minimal cost. Dinan, BMP, Hartge, are just some of the companies that have the problem solvers.

Whats wrong with you having the SC?

how bout you pick up a old 90-99'ish Scooby, those will do you good.
My younger brother had it since he was 17, and he's 21 right now and he's still rocking it . Daily boosted whip.

its an automatic with a torque converter...not a clutchless manual. The only Toyota I know that has a clutchless manual is a MR-S.

I've seen E46 go for around 10k lately...if you don't mind what kind of condition it is in.

if you do get a CL Type-S, stay away from the slushboxes!

and again, my suggestion would be a 2.5RS (sedan for cheaper insurance?) and upgrade suspension. I think they get like 20mpg but not bad for an AWD.

btw, if there is nothing wrong with the SC and you just want a manual, why not spend some of that 10k your parents are offering you for a 5speed swap? SCs get like what? 20mpg? An IS300 or 323 isn't getting much better.

no, parents arent offering 10k...i can get about 6 for my sc (which i orig. paid for myself)and they said they might put in about 3k, and i have about 1-2 in my bank right now, so thats how i get to 10. i dont think im the honda/acura type to be honest. i think they look kind of plain and sound like hell

If you're sick of SC's gas mileage, why are you even considering an E46 or IS300? These I-6 running machines aren't exactly known for great fuel economy you know.

Seriously, get the MR-S. 30mpg can't be bad.

Correct. My IS300 averaged 17-18 MPG, occasionally 20.

I beg to differ. When I was daily driving my 323i, I was getting 31mpg overall. Now that I drive a company car and the 323 only comes out once or twice a month, additional "enthusiasm" has dropped that to 28mpg overall.

The 323i is a fantastic car, I don't know why the OP hates on it. Mine will be 8 years old (bought it with 26 miles on the clock) in October, and it's the only car I've ever driven that I wasn't tired of after 18 months.

I6s are amazing. I can get 27mpg on highway trips averaging 80mph. And that's in my 4200 lb. X3 that's rated to only get 23mpg on the highway by the EPA.

If you want good gas mileage go get a corolla. I once got 354 miles to one tank.
If you can, save up a little more and get yourself an S2000/MR spyder.

Vince, now that ur throwing 'good gas mileage' in to the equation I would have to go w/ the Corolla as shoehead suggested or the Civic. I know u said u 'dont really see yourself as a honda/ acura person' but its worth a test drive, right? U really cant get any more reliable for $10k than these 2 vehicles. The civic has a tighter suspension/ tighter steering and is sportier(since that was in ur original criteria) and the looks are subjective but for $10k u cant really ask 4 to much. At ur price point u will be looking @ '04-'05's. OR w/ ~ 5-6 real world mpg less u can look @ an '02 -'03 Camry or '03 Accord although the 1st year accords had some issues so I would stay away from them and the '04+'s are out of ur price range.
