"Residuals" in leases does not necessarily equate actual resale value. Some companies will give a certain "residual" in their lease, but yet for those who did not lease but actually bought the car & want to sell it back to manufacturer for a new car, they won't give those customers anything close to the "residuals" they list on the leases of the exact same model.
The IS250/350 are listed by a couple sources as the top in it's class in resale value(I think we had a thread on that), yet their lease rates are still poor comparatively.

However, without Toyota Motor Credit support, you are very correct that the IS250/350 will not have attractive lease rates. For comparison, the 328 (which has outstanding residuals) currently has a money factor (interest rate) of about 3.3% on a 24 or 36 month lease. This of course makes it a very attractive rate and counts against BMW as an incentive (even though it does not exist for purchasing the car).

Although the GS marginally outsold the Infiniti M in the month of May, the M has been consistently outselling the GS throughout the year. Really, since both cars were launched in '05, it's been a back and forth battle, but Infiniti seems to be winning that battle as of late. I would definitely not confidently proclaim the GS to be the "third best selling sedan in this class". It isn't. 4th would be more accurate.

I was just going to point this out, but you beat me to it

I was wrong though, the GS is fourth YTD in 2007. The M35/45 is formidable competition and has done very well in reviews.

Nice first post. So a car that has $399 and $549 lease deals and is 5k to 10k less than the competition outsells the GS. Not surprising. The m35/45 has done well, no doubt, very good car and it is a problem for the GS. The last M45 was laughable as the M30/J30 whatever before it.

Very very competitive segment. Lexus lease rates are awful, just awful.

Where are you getting your prices from?
Here are the base prices for the GS/M models:
GS350 RWD: $44,150
M35 RWD: $41,450
M35 RWD Sport: $44,250
M35 Average Base Price: $42,850
Difference: M35 RWD is only $1,350 cheaper than a GS350 RWD
GS350 AWD: $46,100
M35 AWD: $44,550
Difference: M35 AWD is only $1,550 cheaper than a GS350 AWD
GS430: $52,375
M45: $49,100
M45 Sport: $50,500
M45 Average Base Price: $49,800
Difference: M45 is only $2,575 cheaper than a GS430
I don't see how you can suggest that the M is $5,000-$10,000 less than a GS, when the difference in price between the two models are clearly only about a couple of thousand at most. Surely you're not suggesting that such a small price gap is what is causing the M to outsell the GS? Perhaps a better lease deal is more appealing on the M, but the overall MSRP is similar for both GS & M models.
Again, I seem to be wrong by 800 units, lol. Wow, you guys get happy over 1 year. THe GS has been in this segment since 1993. Eventually, you have to figure out how to make a decent car.

My apologies, we are talking about this entire segment, and the 5 starting price is that much more than the M35/45. Sorry about that.
Bottom line, the M35/45 this generation has been a home run for Infiniti while the GS has been a double for Lexus and I don't think Lexus anticipated such a good effort from Nissan considering their previous track record. Thus this car and the Acura RL (to a lesser extent) being formidable competitors from Japan whereas the first and second generations of the GS were battling the Germans by itself.
Clearly you have a M35 or M45

I don't see much wrong with the 3GS. I just wished that Lexus would have came out with the new engines from the get go.
I know everybody keeps saying how the 3GS is not a sport sedan S*** . Ya'll must been driving the Avalon or something. When I drove my sisters 350 felt as tight as my old 2004 545 and imo faster. It seems if Lexus had comparible lease rates as it's competition I think sells would be better.

Oh Oops
My bad - it has been a while since I looked @ the GS/M #s & when I did, the GS was winning & in 3rd. I been distracted lately by trying to figure out what's wrong w/ the RL's #s.
I guess Lexus's lack of a sporty reputation could be affecting sales - especially since it does not have a cheaper sticker price like the IS to attract more buyers. Not sure what can be done -- I doubt a convertible option would make much of a difference.
This is a pretty good thread - should it be in the GS forum?
