Renault-Nissan mulls Chrysler or Ford tie-up post 2009

Posted on Tuesday 5 June 2007

Late last year, Renault-Nissan was keen to tie-up with one of America’s Big Three and was in talks with General Motors until communications between the two came to a crashing halt when neither side could agree on the value of such an alliance. Renault-Nissan is reported to be on the merger hunt again, this time with either the Chrysler Group or possibly Ford.

Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, who met with reporters from French newspaper Le Parisien, mentioned that synergies with US partners other than GM were possible. Ghosn has also stated that the French-Japanese duo would expand the alliance when it’s growing again. Nissan has been experiencing negative growth recently, and the priority now is to wait until this turns around.

Renault will be launching up to 26 models between now and 2009, including cars like the new Twingo and Koleos SUV. Ghosn also revealed that he hopes to establish several new marques as well as revive the Renault Alpine label, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Too bad American auto companies are now relying on French or Japanese ties to help save them.

However, it is necessary. Detroit needs to realize that they need help. American Pride can only go so far.

If Renault and Nissan are stupid enough to do this, then we will see the same problems that Daimler and Chrysler had with their merger.

Thats what I was thinking...

Intersting how Renault gets 26 new models between now and '09 and Nissan gets how many new models? No where near that I am guessing.
