Honda Civic tops teen driver list
SUVs are becoming less popular among teen drivers and performance cars don't make the list.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Honda Civics, both new and used, are the most popular cars among teenage drivers, according to a recent survey.
The most popular new car among teens is the Civic, and the most popular used car is a seven-year-old Civic, according to a national survey conducted by Quality Planning Corporation (QPC), which helps insurance companies verify policy holder information.
The survey looked at cars that were primarily driven by, but not necessarily owned by, teenagers.
The survey also found that the average price of teenagers' used cars in the U.S. is $7,410. The average used vehicle driven by a teenager is 9 years old and the average teenager drives about 9,307 miles a year.
Large SUVs, once a popular choice because parents thought they were "safe," are no longer popular, according to QPC. Its study attributed the drop to higher gasoline prices as well as awareness that a large, heavy vehicle may not be the safest choice for an inexperienced driver.
Sports cars don't appear among the top ten in either list, presumably because of the higher insurance costs and higher risks presented by the aggressive driving performance-oriented cars invite, according to QPC.
Most popular new cars for teen drivers:
1. Honda Civic
2. Ford Focus
3. Toyota Corolla
4. Chevrolet Cavalier
5. Ford Ranger

Nothing new. Economical in every way. That's why I bought one (01) for my sister.
However, interior panels are starting to peel off, outside door is slightly off...seems like honda doesn't hold up as well as corollas.
I had a 95 corolla that was exceptional.

To the thread topic.....yes and no. Civics, especially pimped-out ones, ARE popular with teens, but, from what I have seen, mostly the caps-on-backwards male crowd. Other young teens, and most young girls, don't seem to be that enthralled with them. Many male and female teens, for lack of money, family discipline, or other reasons, drive what their parents give them....or allow them to buy. And.....(I have written and posted on this many times).......V8 Mustangs, high insurance notwithstanding, are extremely popular with teens, and injure or kill more of them than any other vehicle I can think of. The car is like a crack addicition with them.....they drive Mustangs in outrageously aggressive manners and pay the price.

I came from 2 honda accords, 97 and 01 both V6 ...
I used to love them, but after owning them for a while, I just hate the interior build quality, big gap between panels, cracking plastics... ...
now I just hate them..Toyota is a lot better in term of qualities...
Civic?? Never, even when I was 17, never thought about owning a Civic...and that was back in the day when Civic is so popular between tuners...
