The end of Toyota inline6 era....
say sayonara to the Progres, Brevis, MarkII Blit, Crown Estate, Caldina, Klugger (including Hybrid), Corolla Spacio, and MR-S.
Progres...based off Altezza
Brevis...I think its also based off the Altezza.
my ex's father had one, pretty nice actually
Caldina wagon, lost its meaning when Toyota bought Subaru since it was made to compete against the Legacy...which it successfully failed at.
Mark-II Blit. really creepy looking, looks like a hearse IMO
The only living car with an inline6 in Toyota is now the Crown with 1G-FE only.

The second one (Brevis) looks a lot like a Buick! LMAO
I suppose Toyota doesn't want to spend the extra money designing inline-6s. That seems to be the trend thesedays. Thankfully, one other company continues to stick to great engines............

Yes, but it's much harder to package and build into the engine bay. The engine is much long since its mounted longtitudinally. For example, the "mere" 2.5 liter I6 in my X3 fills up the entire length of the underhood area, and then some.

Caldina was a durable little vehicle...still is for those who know it. I got to drive one in Jamaica (along with a Harrier and a few other JDM cars), but I have friends in South America who swore by it even over a pickup truck in terms of durability in a tough environment.

I6 engines are inherently balanced and very smooth, but they have two huge drawbacks; they are large and long, and they add a lot of weight. As a consequence I6-powered cars tend to consume quite a bit of fuel.
Advances in the auto industry have also dimished the advantages of the I6. Modern engine mounts can actively stabilize the engine and almost neutralize vibrations. Also modern transmissions allow for very smooth vehicle operation.
As an enthusiast I definitely love I6 engines, and there are several legendary I6 engines that will live on in history. From the point-of-view of auto manufacturers, I can see why they would stop investing in I6 engines.
