I don't see the wood steering wheel available on the S-class anymore? (only checked the S550 however).

Anyway, it did take Lexus until late 2006 to figure out how to heat a wood steering wheel and Audi still doesn't know how (I almost ended up in an A6 that was PERFECT except they had optioned it with the OPTIONAL wood steering wheel which removed the heated feature).....

Alas, on the Jag, the wood steering wheel has the inserts on the OUTSIDE of the wheel - exactly where they do not belong....(IMHO)

Wood/leather steering wheel is a $550 option for the S550 : http://www.mbusa.com/models/features...50V&class=07_S

Most of the new S550's I saw have wood steering wheels.

A quick check of inventory at the local dealer shows less than 50% of them having the wood steering wheel (at least it is still an option however)

of note, the wood steering wheel on the S550 does delete the heated option.....

I wish the wood/leather combo was avail. on the IS.

Off topic, but, I also wish that the illuminated scuff plates were avail. on the IS sport pack!

Not sure why, since wood steering wheel is standard for the S600 & CL600 as well as the SL600.

Are you sure the S600 has a heated steering wheel? I was not able to find that (of course it is one of the most confusing websites in the world, so it is quite possible I missed it).

Strange that the MB s/cl 600 has wood while the amgs don't

Unless the driver has severe sweaty palm issues, the wood is no good

I still can't see why anyone would lose grip?
And are you guys constantly going over 100mph or eating a messy and greasy burger with no napkins or driving through the windiest road all the time?
Also there are the spokes that you can either grab or slide your fingers through.

The wood steering wheel is listed as standard and also heated for the S600 in the standard equipment list in the Canadian website : http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/index.cfm?id=5362

Even for the S550, I think you can get a heated wood steering wheel in Canada.

I have seen E55, S65 & SL65 AMG's with wood steering wheels. Their special paint/interior designo packages which are available for the AMG's too come with wood steering wheels anyway.
And I think even if you don't go with the designo packages, you can still order wood steering wheels for the AMG models even if it's not officially listed as an option.

Good Points. I often hold onto the spokes myself. That is one of the things I look for in steering wheel design.....how comfortable the spokes are. And that's also one reason why I don't like buttons on the spokes...in some cases, they are too easy to push accidentally.

I love wood steering wheels. While I like the wheels like Jaguar and Lexus have, I like the way Infiniti have done it. Still has the elegance and look of wood, but the backside still has the grip and feel of leather.

Exactly and I said it on the first page. 99.9999% won't even notice the benefits as they drive to work and wal-mart and have automatic cars.

Sorry this is a Lexus forum, we shop at Target.

Hopefully it looks better in person. in the picture it looks like a fake wood applique. Especially the bottom section.

I see what you mean and I agree. I think it's the wood color, pattern, and gloss. That's one of the gripes I have with the 7-Series. The interior with the right color combo looks okay, but the standard wood looks so cheap and plasticky.
