[QUOTE=Mr. Jones;2721598]I'm sure a 4000lb car w/massed produced brakes is going to remain fade free all day long.[/qupote]

3400-3500.

Sorry, but the the 335i like all BMW's is far from trackworthy. Unless you consider the 330i's failure in C&D and the M5 failure on topgear as acceptable.
Magazine racer?

This is the second time a review has indicated the 335i has serious cooling issues.
Again, that has been stated over and over again and the issue has been fixed, just not on this particular test car.

It's faster than an IS350. It FEELS much faster due to its amazing torque band ranging from 1500 to 5000 RPM.

Performance-wise, the 335i has definately earned my respect. It has tons of potential; well, most stock turbo cars do.

All of Mercedes AMG models are using a 5 speed, because they are a lot more durable.

Well this is both right and wrong. The 335i brakes will fade, last time I was at Shannonville my front rotors were red hot after 16 laps.

That said, the 335i is plenty trackworthy - it only has cooling issues if you don't have an oil cooler (I don't), and, well, have bad luck I guess, since I haven't managed to kill mine yet. Two things are bad with the 335i at the track, one it is heavy, and two no LSD means a lot of inside tire spin. It's as trackworthy as an e46 M3 though, if that means anything.

Well my average is ~13.4/103mph or so. My best is 13.29 @ 104.0mph. 60ft was 1.910. I have the slip around somewhere. That was stock. My best time on Shannonvilles long track is 2:13:30 and on the short track 1:35:00. Last time I was there an e46 M3 with an intake and exhaust (and maybe gears) ran 2:15:xx right after me. They're pretty similar around the track. Oh, track temp was almost 100F that day too, and we did almost 20 laps. I had a break in between lap 16 and 17 though. For the Shannonville times I had an exhaust, coilovers, and tires, fwiw. I haven't done a 1/4 mile run since modding.

Picus, I just spoke over MSN messenger with the friend that was driving the 335 with me, here's a copy of our coversations.

******

Och says: hey
Dima says:hey
Och says: u know the bimmer didnt overheat
Och says: it goes into limp mode after 313 degrees, 280 is borderline
Dima says: sure it did, both yellow and red signs were on
Dima says: that's oil, not coolant
Dima says: at 313 coolant would be useless
Och says: wait how hot was that ****?
Dima says: coolant 240, oil over 300
Och says: because a guy on lexus forum is saying red sign could've been anything
Dima says: sure
Dima says: but the yellow was as well
Dima says: yellow = overheat
Dima says: red = anything including limp mode

********

So I guess it did overheat afterall. Like I said, I didnt pay much attention to the gauges, and it was my friend that pointed out that the car overheated. In any case, it defenately didn't feel to be in limp mode, it was still wickid fast.

what is suppose to be the normal engine oil temperature like 200-220? Why a manafacturer wouldnt install an oil cooler on a turbocharged car is beyond me. Thats like putting on a turbo and not upgrading the ignition system

Normal operating temps are 220-312F for the 335i.

Hrm. I'm not sure what happened to be honest. He is right though, the cooland overheats at 240F, but no one anywhere has managed to overheat the coolant afaik. When the coolant overheats the car goes into the same limp mode as with oil. Either way, it sucks that whatever did happen happened.
