Default Officially Official: Japan gets Honda Civic Mugen RR (vandelized on dealer lot)

It was rumored yesterday, and it's real today. Come September 13, Japanese enthusiasts will be able to order up the hottest Civic Type R yet. The already-impressive R gets the full once-over from Mugen, and the result is the Honda Civic Mugen RR. Designed to be perhaps the ultimate front-engined/front-wheel-drive performance car, the Mugen RR sheds an additional 10kg (22 lbs) off the standard Civic Type R's weight, coming in at 2733 lbs. In addition to the weight loss, the freer-breathing Mugen RR picks up 15 horsepower over the regular Type R. It's rated at 240 horses at 8,000 rpm and 160 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm.

Complementing the added power and and decreased weight are a new bodykit, upgraded brakes all around, a retuned suspension, new wheels and tires, and logo-emblazoned Recaro sport buckets. Availability is limited to 300 cars, all in the Milan Red finish shown, and the pricing in Japan has been set at ¥4,777,500 ($38,750 USD).

Mugen's official website has a video of the car lapping Japan's Tsukuba circuit in 1:06:68, which is worth a look if you're interested in seeing it in action.

Rear tails reminds me of the 98 and up Accord, nice looking car though with decent numbers.

1. Its a Honda Civic
2. Its still FWD
3. If I want a 240hp Honda, the S2000 is the way to go
4. WIth exchange rates, this would be around $39,000 here
5. You lose a whopping 22lbs and gain a whopping 15hp

$39,000....for a Civic...

WOW looks good, but still a civic. In my opinion we got too many cars in that price range that are better.

The great engineering powerhouse of Honda has been reduced to making rice rockets. If someone wanted a real performer in this category they would just pick the EVO X. Truth be told, even the EVO IX would run circles around this little bit from HONDA.

With only 300 units, I'm sure it'll sell the whole production run of them.

I agree there may be better options for the price, but sometimes people just like a car just for the sake of liking it. If all of us were interested in getting the absolute best performance car, why are we all not driving Evo's and Z06's? Who knows until its out, but if the IS-F isn't quite up to par on handling with the competition, I'm sure there's a TON of us on this board who'd still want it. Yet there will be people saying get the M3, its still a Lexus.
