Default Denso SARD Supra HV-R takes the pole at Tokachi 24

Source: Autoblog

The Denso SARD Supra HV-R, a former Super GT racer modified to run with a hybrid powertrain, has taken the pole position for today's 2007 Tokachi 24-hour endurance race, which will be well underway by the time you read this. Toyota Team SARD competed with a hybrid in the event last year, a Lexus GS450h that finished 4th in class and 17th overall. The Supra HV-R is a different breed of cat entirely, however, and assuming it doesn't experience any mechanical problems or on-track mishaps, it looks to have a shot at the overall win....

Awesome stuff, looks like Toyota learned a lot after racing the GS450h last year. Will be interesting to see the final results.

Is this race against all Hybrid cars in the field or against gas engine cars as well? Anyway, it looks like they are doing really well at the monment: UPDATE 2: After 20 hours of racing, the hybrid Supra remains in the lead, having completed 507 laps. The second place car has completed 492.

UberNoob, can you please paint a picture how rich Toyota Co. is?

i believe this supra is the only hybrid car
last year the GS450H race car finished 4th in its class
that is because there were only 4 cars in its class so it couldnt get any worse
lol

but so far the results look good this year
they finally realized that races are not publicity stunts if there are no results to follow

toyota reported revenue of $196 billion USD for 2006
im not sure of the profit but im sure it is one of the most profitable of all the mainstream automakers (if we dont count porsche in after buying VW)

Toyota F1 team has the largest budget in the sport
IIRC, toyota F1 team has the budget of almost $200 million USD this year

btw where can i find the updates of the race?

toyota makes the most total profits of all the auto makers; they made like 13 billion last year and like 12 the year before that

I got it from Autoblog.com..........thanks to MR F1.
Latest update: With 2 hours to go, the Supra HV-R has expanded its lead. it is now 17 laps up on the second- and third-place cars. Wow 196 billion in revenue just for one year?

One thing to note is that the HV-R is a 3UZ-FE hybrid, the GS450h was using the 2GR-FSE.
4.3L V8 vs. 3.5 V6. (as stock engines, I looked up the HV-R it is actually 4.4L)
I wonder what batteries they're using for the HV-R. It weighs in at 2300 lbs.

I knew they'd do much better this year when I heard they were switching from the porky GS to the Supra, a much superior platform to build a proper race car on. It's a true shame that this winner has long ago been discontinued. Hopefully the victory will finally translate into Toyota's actually producing the FT-HS.
