I'm a noob but this is my take. WE DO IT BECUASE WE LOVE CARS.
But, to anyone who doesn't belive in the personal taste argument I
ask this question. Why do we have MB,Ferrarri, Lexus and all these others.
If cars where strictly machines to get you from point A to B in the most
efficient manner, we would all be working together to design a single box
that could be used by everyone. We are a unigue group who get a kick out
of creating something personal and cars are what we use to express ourselves.

I'm probably re-iterating everyone else, but I do it because I like to stand apart from the rest; make a personal statement.

Plus I love it when people stare or give me the thumbs up...gives me a certain level of satisfaction.

Every since hs when my friend's dad brought home a black gs400, I knew I had to have one. It gave me motivation to work hard in school and now its paying off

1. It’s in my gene, I can’t control it.
2. Satisfactory feeling.
3. I have too much $$, need a place to spend. J/K.

I saw 3 stock gray 3GS's today and was reminded of this thread.

Needless to say, I liked mine WAY better

Why Not?
Nothings perfect!!

If you've ever built a car......its never finished.

You either get it.......or you dont.

Why do you personally modify your car? Why take an expensive luxury performance oriented car that a company has spent years engineering and start taking it apart the day you bring it home? I could understand wanting to make a few mods on a Ford Festiva or a Dodge Neon, but a Lexus? I'm not referring to a few cosmetic mods or anything, but the more invasive mods like intakes, exhausts, suspension mods, etc. Whats the rationale?
there is just too many reasons why. performance, aesthetic, resale, show, etc, etc. just think of something you have maybe a cellphone and have you changed the case or ringtone or wallpaper? why did you do it, its probably a reason that can be applied to cars also.

as for a lexus, the car is far from a highly tuned performance car. you do the performance mods cuz you want the luxury of a lexus but want better performance. youre probably looking for a balance between comfort and performance.

if you think doing cosmetic mods are not similar as getting performance mods then your rationality is off as you could pose the same question with those switched and it would be similar answers. either way you would be saying that the engineers have been wasting their time wind tunning different body designs, or the types of spoilers and wheels they use. a mod is a mod whether visually or performance and you get them cuz you are not happy with something about the car.
