Default Will The Chinese Succeed in USA?

And will they be confined to low priced cars?

Low cost will be the selling point when they enter the market. But can they move beyond that price point into traditional priced vehicles? Or luxury brands?

Obvioulsy build quality, safety, content and dealer support will be critical for their succeess. But will Americans be receptive to these brands? How much will the recent success of Hyundai have on Americans accepting Chinese vehicles?

My guess is American will accept these vehicles after they can be assured of the quality of the vehicles. I believe you will see a proliferation of Chinese brands early on that will be reduced to a handful of brands after a few years, as smaller companies will enter the market ill prepared and without the financial resources to succeed. Those manufacturers that have been preparing for entry with US partners, and working with European manufaturers over the past few years will be in the best shape to succeed early on.

Frankly I look forward to the increased competition. Look what competition did for Detroit and Hyundai. Hyundai is now in a position to challenge Toyota and Detriot has never build a better quality car, though they still don't stack up to the Japanese brands.

If Safety and Quality issues are addressed as primary concerns (instead of cost effectiveness), they will definately be considered by many...

Let me post a reminder that this is about the Chinese cars & their manufacturing, marketing , quality etc.
PLEASE DO NOT INTRODUCE ANY POLITICAL OR POSSIBLY RACIAL ELEMENTS IN THIS THREAD.

I think what is going to happen is the government is going to have to step in as American brands will continue to lose market share and get creamed.

Short term, no, I'm thinking Daewoo here.

Eventually they will. Initially, they might be considered something like how Hyundai is, a cheaper alternative to transportation. They'll get better though =)

They are already testing the market in their own country for some time. After further analysis, other regions will most likely be their target, before exporting to the US.

Daewoo tried the American market, first through a college-campus ad program (remember that one?), and then though dealer franchises.....and both of them flopped. Their presence here, today, is more or less limited to making rebadged vehicles for Suzuki and Chevy.

A significant number of them have already stated they will enter USA within
1 - 2 years. Work has been under way for at least 2 years to build a USA operation.

They also must be able to design cars uniquely, rather than making knock-offs...

Now? With the safety QC issues, most likely not.

Eventually, maybe.

If they bring those designs here, they will most definitely get sued by every automaker
They'll be bankrupt before they can even sell anything

As far as they've come with manufacturing, I think the Chinese still
have a long way to go before they can overcome the stigma that
most (if not all) of their products are derivative or outright copies.

There are certainly concerns about quality, as well.

I have issues purchasing their products due to my personal views and
concerns about how they treat their work force and the environment...
and their complete disregard for "intellectual property."

For all the designs they have copied, they have created some good looking cars on their own.
