Chrysler to offer lifetime powertrain warranty.
Chrysler Introduces New ‘Best-in-Industry’ Lifetime Powertrain Warranty
on Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge Vehicles
*The New Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty – the first from an OEM and the longest in the industry – is a statement of confidence in the reliability of Chrysler products
*Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system
*Provides worry-free ownership for new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge owners
Auburn Hills, Mich., Jul 26, 2007 - Chrysler today announced that the Company would extend its powertrain warranty from the 3-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty to a new Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty applies to most new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles purchased from dealer inventory and delivered on or after July 26, 2007.
The Lifetime Powertrain Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system. The new powertrain warranty is limited to the first registered owner or retail lessee. Customers should contact dealers for details on vehicle selection.
“This new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is a statement of confidence to our customers to the reliability of their powertrain. It’s peace-of-mind reassurance for as long as they own the vehicle,” said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President – North America, Sales and Marketing, Service and Parts, Chrysler Group.
To continue warranty coverage, the owner must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection will be performed at no charge. The inspection must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle.
Landry added, “The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty underscores our focus on quality and customer satisfaction. It demonstrates our commitment to customers and the confidence we have in our ability to produce quality, reliable and durable vehicles. That’s why we put ‘lifetime’ on it.”
Customers may visit Chrysler.com, Jeep.com and Dodge.com for more information. A warranty promotion – print, radio, television and Internet – begins Friday, July 27.

Damn.
That's a lot of coverage do be done in "a lifetime."
But since this is for the first owner only, I can imagine that a lot of the cars will not have such a privilage. Most cars are sold or traded rather quickly, especially with today's quick changing automotive technology.

Same here, our family run our cars until they can't run anymore. With Toyota/Lexus one doesn't really have to worry too much about our cars failing on us. There will be a few that might be defective by overall Toyota/Lexus is known for reliability, dependability and longevity...

Also, for a lot of people, the engine and tranny is only a small part of the car. After a while, electronics go haywire, seats wear out, technology becomes obsolete, and the car is a rolling piece of junk. Sure, it rolls, but it's a piece of junk...

It is certainly a bold move by Chrysler. Hyundai and Kia was bold with it's 10 year and 100K mile coverage and it worked great for them. That warrenty is only for the original owner as well. That get's these companies seperated from a LOT of cars that get sold before the warrenty is up. No company could afford to do this otherwise.

the problem with setting up something like this is restrictions on the warrenty are gonna be sooo strict that anything done to the car will void the warrenty, it will also cause alot of problems between owners and dealers in terms of covrage, another problem is what if u miss the 60 day period, and u come in on the 65th day to get the inspection will your warrenty be viod ( we actually used to have a durango and our transmision broke 15 miles after the warrenty ended and they wouldnt change it on the warrenty, they wanted us to pay for it, so we went to a diffrent dealership baught extended warrenty and got them to fix it wether they liked it or not :P ) this could be a desaster in terms of client relations especially since dodge has no control over how there dealers treat there clients when it comes to taking care of there needs and repairs, if dealers dont start treating there customers like lexus does, chances of repeat customers are going to dwindel hence hurting profits in the long run...........but what do I know :P

SPECIAL ONE TIME DEAL *excluding Corvette, Sky, GXP, Lighting, or basically any car you would actually consider switching to American for. LOL smoke and mirrors, like Time Warner is going to "give" you 8 MBPS upgrade for free* but they will now throttle all the applications that could actually use 8 MBPS.

For people like me who keep their cars for close to 10 years, these sorts of warranties are nice. But for most people, their non-transferable nature makes them a useless sales gimmick just like Kia warranties, etc.
This warranty does not apply to SRT or diesel models. I don't think there's a deductible.
