Tuner Special: MTM TT Bimoto (twin-engined Audi TT)
Motoren Technik Mayer is going for a record with this twin-engined version of the Audi TT.
MTM TT Bimoto hit 242.2 mph on a test track in pursuit of the 249-mph record.
WETTSTETTEN, Germany — Tuner Roland Mayer's Motoren Technik Mayer continues to push the twin-engine TT Bimoto to new limits, setting a speed mark of 242.2 mph on the Papenburg test track.
The car was shod with 19-inch ContiSportContact Vmax tires and was piloted by Porsche Carrera Cup driver Florian Gruber. A high-performance Brembo brake system is installed.
MTM is aiming to shatter the 400-kph (249 mph) mark later this year in official runs at the Narḍ circuit in Italy.
The TT Bimoto is equipped with two turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engines, one in the front and one in the rear. Each modified engine currently makes 370 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. MTM says that with additional modifications, including larger turbochargers and an increase in displacement to 2.0 liters, the engines can produce a combined 1,000 hp.
MTM spent more than $800,000 to construct the prototype. Mayer says he plans a limited run of 10 TT Bimotos, once development tests are completed.
What this means to you: If Mayer can achieve 250 mph with just 740 hp, does he really need to goose it to 1,000 hp? Uh, yeah....
