No Top Gear for U.S.A.
It's Stop Gear for the States
July 24, 2007
AN American version of Top Gear has hit the skids – because Jeremy Clarkson has refused to live in the US.
BBC chiefs were set to sign a multi-million dollar contract with an American channel to make a Stateside show this year.
The deal would have made US stars of Sun columnist Jeremy and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond.
But the gruelling filming schedule meant the trio would have had to live in the US for FOUR months.
An insider said: “There were two very big deals on the table and the BBC were just about to sign one of them.
“But because it takes a long time to film the show it meant the crew and presenters would have had to live out there for several months.
“Jeremy didn’t want to do that because his life and family are in Britain, so it’s been shelved.
“It’s a massive shame because the programme would be huge over there as the Americans love their cars. That said, I’m sure it will happen one day.”
Top Gear managing director, Adam Waddell, said: “We don't comment on specific negotiations. Suffice to say, BBC Worldwide still has aspirations to take Top Gear to the US and there’s no reason why those plans shouldn’t include Jeremy.”
But BBC bosses have secured some good news from across the pond — they’re making a US version of reality hit DanceX.
The deal with ABC will make judge Bruno Tonioli, who will be one of the show’s two judges, a US household name.
He will team up with Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba for the six-part series.

They should make the show and have Jay Leno replace Clarkson!

They should bring the show over in its non-cut down glory, unlike what Discovery did when they showed Top Gear.
Maybe cut out the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car bit. But otherwise, leave it be!
P.S A Top Gear special recently aired. The trio raced to the North Pole. I am downloading it right now, but I hope it is good.

I've really sat hard and thought about it and it'd be feasible if there are a ton of folks to put in a lot of hard work (I'm up for it) -- but the biggest problem is the damn American media catering to the dumb majority.
