Toyota establishes "Committee to create interesting cars"

Toyota's MegaWeb showcase in the center of Tokyo proudly displays 13 sedans, 11 minivans, nine hatchbacks, six 4x4s, four station wagons and zero sports cars. Since production of the MR2 went the way of the Supra and the Celica and Soarer fell under the Lexus banner, Toyota has had precious little for car enthusiasts to get excited about.
The situation is so dire that even Toyota's top brass have noticed. According to the August 26th edition of "Best Car" magazine (Japan is no longer just 16 hours ahead of the US it would seem), the board of directors has created a "Committee to create interesting cars" in response to grass roots criticism that recent Toyotas are uninteresting. Let's hope that by admitting to having a problem, the company has taken the first step to recovery.
No word about what the committee's recommendations have been to date, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear.

Here's how it should be read. Since they stopped production of the MR2, just like the Supra and Celica, and Soarer is a Lexus, Toyota has had...
Better?

Ahh... Corolla GTS, Supra TT, MR-2, Celica All Trac... There are more than enough "interesting" cars you can revive just by looking back at the history, Toyota. And give the production FT-HS and even Volta a go already!

No big deal....and the answer is so simple you don't even need a committee for it.
Just go back to the Toyotas the company was building 10-15 years ago....in the early-to-mid 90's. With a couple of exceptions, IMO they were some of the best Toyota products ever done, in styling, interiors, comfort, and quality of materials. IMO, many Toyota-designed products since then have been considerably cheapened or plagued with geeky styling (the Corolla excepted), especially in the quality of their interiors and trim.

can i point out that 'interesting' doesn't necessarilly mean 'sporty' ... they could be planing to make really ugly stupid cars that people will just look at and say 'well, it's interesting anyway'
what they need, (if the want a committee) is a 'committee to create a sports car under 30k' and just make sure its damn good so toyota can have some street cred again

2+2 coupe
~175hp-250hp engine
good looking
sub 20k price point
... and put a Corolla Levin badge on the back
Interesting enough?
How about you bring us back the Supra? Celica all-trac? You can make the MR-2 A Lexus if you like, as long as you keep the weight reasonable. An IS coupe? An IS-F coupe? How about turning that LF-C coupe into the new SC? Its about time you know.
Where is the TRD Tacoma you have been showing us for so long? How about making the Vitz RS Turbo available as the TRD Yaris?
Dammit Toyota......You need a committee to figure out what are interesting cars? How about you just listen to what the fans have been asking you for, for the last decade!
