Shuttle vs Loaner

Getting a car into Lexus dealer for service, what would be the rule of thumb of dealer to make you wait, offer a shuttle, or a loaner?
Because I am going to have an alignment checked and brake pad TSIB done which could take 1.5 to up to few hours (i hope not), so the dealer offered a shuttle back to my city.
I didn't need to go anywhere but work so it's not a big deal.. But would it be reasonable to ask for a loaner.. for just a few hours of service. Please let me know so I know what to expect next time.

On the Lexus we always had loaners available (big dealership), they were never out. However, I know with my BMW dealer, if they were out of loaners, they will rent you a car at no cost if you bought your car there.

Technically if the work is less than 4 hrs, you are not supposed to get a loaner. Many dealers do give them out b/c they do appease the customer and they well, sell themselves.
Secondly, it also depends on your relationship with the dealer. If your buying cars and spending money there, most will take GREAT care of you. If you bring in your 15 year old ES on Friday at 5:58pm expecting a loaner, good luck.

if r service takes 2 hours or longer u get a loaner, its either an rx, an es, an is, and if ur lucky, and u rly need a loaner, they give u an sc, but dont bet on it. in 2004 they used to used rav 4's and camry's to, o and the loaner is there waiting for us, if u got a serivice, they got a loaner no matter wat
