I ride with a close group of buddies. Their rides are:
sadly I feel out of place for having the cheap bike, but I don't care, I keep up just fine

You are part of a "small" community of people that know the difference between driving a car versus riding a motorcycle. The good thing is that do DO have a bike.
Whether it's a scooter, rocket, or cruiser; whether it's a beater or racer or hog; nothing compares to being out on the "open" road (literally). Not even a convertible sports car can compare to the feeling that you get on a motorcycle (Can they pull a wheelie? I think not!
). I'm happy that you're one of the few riders on CL.

Here's my 1999 Suzuki Bandit 1200S:
I've owned it since new and just turned 35,000 miles on the clock.
Love the bike because it does everything. It's easy to work on, and has tons of torque. It also does great as a touring bike.
