Yesterday, an elderly man drove his car through the Fullerton Farmers' Market.

Thankfully, nobody was injured, but the driver was a bit "out of it"...

Drunk, aggressive, or incompetent drivers , unfortunately, are going to continue to be a problem until some real action is taken against them. Fortunately, my state is one of the leaders in this field. We are starting to get TOUGH. The recent, well-publicized actions in VA are mostly money and fine-related, but VA will pull your license if infractions keep up....and jail those who drive on suspended tickets. KY apparantly agrees.....her license was suspended for 60 days after she pleaded guilty to a DUI.

I'm glad no one was hurt......and Mercedes' well-deserved reputation for safety protected the driver as well.

It is becoming more common to find shopping centers installing barriers to prevent such "drive through" instances. Had this market had one...it would have ended quickly and outside. Amazing to think that such a preventive measure for these such drivers has to be considered.

We need a more serious way to stop drink-driving. Many people don't consider themselves 'drunk' when they drive even though they're well over the legal limit.

Maybe after being convicted of DUI (first time), you must then FOREVER have a device in your car preventing it from starting if breathing into it shows elevated alcohol.

Maybe a license should be MARKED after a DUI and bars/restaurants could check and not sell drinks to ANYONE with the MARK. Yes that can be gotten around by someoe else buying the drinks but it might help.

Drunk driver usually don't get it, even after a DUI and keep doing it.

There MUST be more negative stigma associated with drink driving somehow. Some localities publish DUIs in the paper, but maybe somehow it could be made worse - put videos on YouTube of the offender failing the breath test of them not being able to walk in a straight line.

Everyone in the store should sue her for reckless endangerment, take her for every penny.

You ever read the Scarlet Letter? How about branding... Little brand on your forearm that bartenders can recognize as a DUI'er. Then they know they can only serve so much to that person, or report anyone who is buying drinks for that person after their limit has expired.

That is interesting, would be sweet to see that, or even tattoo their forhead with "do not serve alcohol"

Yes, I like the scarlet letter branded onto their license idea

Moreso like registering as a sex offender-now you're a registered dui'er

THese people won't get it UNTIL they kill someone. Heck, there are stupid lawyers out there defending these idiots, lowering the punishments for them

BTW, I don't know of any female E class drivers who don't get into some of accidents (no offense)

Hollywood and the entertainment industry certainly don't help, either, with their glorification of celebrities and glamour girls who constantly do this....Paris, Lindsay, and Nicole are perfect examples. I won't go into their cases in detail again (we've already discussed them enough in other threads), but Hilton's 23-day "sentence" was a joke.

Perhaps first DUI conviction..forfeiture of car/motorcycle. Second or if any injuries were involved in first incident...execution by hanging or firing squad. (Much the same for cell phone users who are involved in similar.)

Driving is serious and has many consequences. America typifies poor driving with cell phones, eating, grooming...and other multi-tasking while operating a vehicle.

The problem with that is you've taken away their ability to get to work (assuming they still have a license) and that means more fiscal burden on the government which is why it isn't done.

It's like uninsured motorists - why do you think governments don't really crack down on it? Because they like the tax revenues from gasoline, car sales, etc.

So the law-abiding are penalized and have to PAY FOR uninsured motorist coverage, which SUCKS.
