better value would be a used LX470 though it's a totally different type of vehicle, if you ever own one,you will not want to buy any other SUV, not here to argue, I love the MDX but it's too expensive for what it is,a freaking Honda, interior is too noisy,LX on the other hand is a true luxury SUV and a proven work horse,no matter how you treat it,

Nothing wrong with it being a Honda. Honda makes some of the best cars in the world. When I hear Honda I think quality, reliability and engineering. Don't get caught up with badges. Sure, a Lexus has more prestige than an Acura, but only those that have a chip on their shoulder and think they are better than others because of the badge on the hood of their car bring up the brand name debate. Most other people judge any car based on the car.

For the record. If I were shopping for an SUV in the class the MDX is in I'd get the MDX as well. For me it is the best SUV in its class currently. We'll see how the 09 Lexus RX competes when it comes out later. Should be a good fight.

mom has an 04 LX470 the interior is extremely dated vs an MDX, to be expected from a 10 year old design. It does its job in its own way but you cant compare it to an MDX

For those who complain overpriced, go check out a V6 Cayenne 3.0 X5, direct competitors, if you wanna see overpriced. Id love to see any of those be 48k with navigation system, upgraded audio, magnetic sport suspension, rear DVD system, SH-AWD, power 3rd row, heated 2nd row. Lateral G on a MDX Sport rivals a non sport IS

First, you have to stop comparing apples and oranges. The GX and LX are not similiar vehicles by any means. The GX is a true off-roader.....tall, narrow, trucklike, stiffer-riding, with low-range gearing, and has tipsier handling than the RX. It is essentially a Lexus version of the Toyota 4Runner.
The RX, in turn, is much more carlike...it is based on the Camry platform and is smoother riding, better-handling on dry pavement, more stable, and lacks off-road gearing. It will also probably get somewhat better mileage than the GX.

When you compare the MDX to these two vehicles, you have to compare them separately for what each one of them is. The MDX, in general, is closer, in design and execution, to the RX than to the GX....but is slightly stiffer-riding and, IMO, lacks the RX's rich interior quality and trim.

It sounds like she is another victim to SUV trends. If she doesn't need the utility, the TL is the better vehicle. I am not sure why someone would move from a beautiful, good performing, great value TL, to a slower, bulkier, uglier SUV?

If she likes Acura and wants something TLish but in a SUV, the MDX, IMO is perfect for her. I wouldn't even convince her to buy a RX if she like Acuras.

Usually because of bad weather.....but snow is not usually a problem in central TX where they live. But still, Austin does get heavy rain and wet roads, and driving in the TX Hill Country west of Austin on wet two-lane roads can be dicey sometimes. ( I know....I've been there). AWD helps there as well as in the snow....and Austin gets occasional ice storms.
