Default Spied: 2009 Honda Pilot (Early Reactions Sour on Design of New Honda Pilot - Page 4)

Spy photographers recently caught the future Pilot out on a testing run.

Heavy camouflage makes it difficult to visualize the Pilot's new look.

Power is expected to come from a slightly larger V6 than the current model's 3.5-liter engine.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Still early in the development cycle, Honda is keeping its 2009 Pilot tightly under wraps, but the latest spy photos offer a better idea of the Pilot's overall size, plus a good look at the SUV's front grille.

Little else is known about the future Pilot at this time, but we expect it to have a slightly larger V6 than the current 3.5-liter engine.

What this means to you: Stealthy spy photographers will continue to stalk known testing areas until Honda is ready to reduce the Pilot's camouflage.

I wonder how many hints it will take from the MDX.

The auto manufacturers are gettin' good at disguising the prototypes!?! What happened to the days of the black tape?

That grille is making me nervous (please don't make it look like a Ridgeline, please don't make it look like a Ridgeline, please don't make it look like a Ridgeline) *fingers crossed, eyes squinted*

Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show

Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Honda Pilot Unveiled
The 2009 Honda Pilot shares a platform with the '07 Acura MDX, starting at a lower price, with simpler features, seating 8 people. It also features a new Variable Cylinder Management system, which means the engine, can run on 6, 4 or 3 cylinders. The looks draw heavily on classic American SUV design themes, but improve upon them in a clean, contemporary way. Just look at the area behind the C-pillars for instance; it resembles what the Jeep Liberty should have looked like. Inside, the central instrument binnacle is highlighted by a clear, lighted cover that certainly looks much better than the shabby black plastic you'll find there on most vehicles.

The grill isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's those darn headlights that makes it look like total crap.
