Default Honda Accord Tourer Concept Revealed

Honda planning Accord Tourer Concept for Frankfurt

Posted on Tuesday 28 August 2007

Honda will present a new Accord wagon concept at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, a new model that’ll likely replace the current model pictured above. The Accord Tourer Concept gives an indication of the design direction for the next-gen Accord that’s expected to go on sale in Europe by the middle of next year. This is not the same car that was recently revealed for the North American market .

The new concept car will also preview a new low emission powertrain, likely to be the reveal of Honda’s upcoming diesel engine. Other green initiatives will include Honda’s Small Hybrid Sports concept from the Geneva Show as well as FCX fuel-cell sedan concept that’s expected to go on sale in the US and Japan next year.

Also on show will be Honda’s current F1 racing car as well as the Civic Type R and Honda S2000 convertible.

Press Release

August 28, 2007– Honda will be presenting the world debut of an exciting Accord Tourer Concept at the forthcoming 2007 Frankfurt motor show. A press conference will be held on the Honda stand in Hall 5 on the first Press Day, 11th September, between 13.15 and 13.45.

The Accord Tourer Concept will give a strong indication of the design direction of the all-new generation Accord Tourer set to debut in mid-2008 and its wider, lower look signals a more sporty, more emotional styling approach. This will be matched by a range of advanced, low emissions engines and innovative new chassis technology that will deliver exceptional handling without compromising ride comfort.

As well as an extensive selection of models from the passenger car range, the Honda stand will also feature a comprehensive line-up of motorcycles and power equipment products. The stand will focus around the twin themes of ”Sports” and “Environment”.

The “Environment” area will centre upon Honda’s ground-breaking environmental technologies, such as petrol-electrical vehicles. This includes the Small Hybrid Sports Concept first revealed at the Geneva Show which demonstrates a unique fusion of advanced hybrid technology and fun-to-drive sports car characteristics. Alongside it will be Honda’s next-generation clean diesel engine, the production Civic Hybrid and the FCX Concept with its fully-functioning fuel cell technology which made its European driving debut at the Gotland Ring in Sweden earlier this year.

The “Sports” area of the stand will include Honda’s current F1 racing car, the RA107 piloted by Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, alongside Civic Type R and Honda S2000 production models, There will also be a strong emphasis on the company’s motorsport heritage and alongside the latest F1 car will be one of Honda’s first, the 1967 RA300.

To emphasise the major contribution made by motorcycles towards Honda’s sporting prowess and reputation there will be displayed examples of both the Repsol Honda RC212V from this year’s MotoGP series – raced by Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden – and one of the HM Plant Honda CBR1000RR Fireblades which contested this year’s Isle of Man TT races and allowed John McGuinness to capture the first 130mph lap of the circuit and victory in the Senior TT Race.

The line-up of production motorcycles includes the world’s first production motorcycle airbag system, available on the new Gold Wing, which can help lessen the severity of injuries caused by frontal collisions.

Stand visitors will also be welcomed by several displays of Honda’s unique innovation, which include the ASIMO humanoid robot, Honda solar panels and HondaJet.

The pic is the current Gen, they are going to show us the new one.
So that will be our TSX, if it is not a sedan, but we can see the next Gen TSX design, and get an idea how it will look like.

Although just a concept, the Honda Accord Tourer signals Honda's hopes to build a real, genuine, honest-to-goodness tourer on the Accord platform again. Honda says it plans on building something that will look a lot like this estate by the middle of next year and we hope they aren't lying. This is one of the swoopiest wagons we've seen in a while. Particularly at the rear, it has some beautiful lines that are elegant and sporty, and downright sexy. It makes us think of an Alfa Romeo, which is a good thing. This concept changes very little of the new Accord as we know it, stretching the track and width a bit to help with cargo space and handling. It will feature the 2.0- and 2.4-liter gas engines, as well as Honda's 2.2-liter diesel, as options when it goes into production, which means it will be a full all-Euro 5-compliant vehicle across the board. Honda says we'll see the final version at Geneva and we can't wait. Hopefully a U.S. version will be in the plans as well.

Accord Tourer Concept

Today, Honda presents its Accord Tourer Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2007. For those that couldn’t make it to the show, images of the sporty and sleek-looking car are now available.

The Accord Tourer Concept gives an indication of the design direction for the next generation Accord – on sale in the UK from mid-2008. Its wider, lower look signals a more sporty styling approach. Innovative chassis technology will deliver an involving driving experience without compromising ride comfort.

The new model has smarter, sleeker proportions than its predecessor, yet greater width, which makes for a more spacious cabin and also allows for an increase in the track to help give superb handling.

The all-new Accord will be powered by a range of advanced, low emissions engines, making it one of the first cars to offer an entirely Euro 5-compliant engine line-up. Two petrol engines of 2.0 and 2.4-litre capacities and a 2.2-litre diesel engine mirror those in the current Accord range, but power output will be boosted and emissions and fuel economy significantly improved.

Production versions of the new Accord will debut in Saloon and Tourer forms at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

i-DTEC - next generation clean diesel at Frankfurt
Also making its Motor Show debut is Honda’s next generation clean diesel engine - the i-DTEC.

Honda’s development programme for the i-DTEC engine - which uses world-first technology to reduce emissions to a level equal to that of a petrol engine – continues to motor ahead.

Phase one of the programme – compliance with forthcoming Euro 5 legislation – has already been achieved. The engine, which will make its debut appearance in the new Accord range, is shown on the stand at Frankfurt.

Using a combination of the latest injection technology, more efficient exhaust gas recirculation and a diesel particulate filter, the 2.2-litre engine well exceeds the Euro 5 requirements, and achieving this has not compromised engine performance. Both power and torque levels have been increased and fuel economy has been improved compared to the current 140 PS engine.

Looks good. The back still looks a big bulky and is a bit Audi-ish (not a bad thing since their wagons are quite stylish). They're still sticking to their point front end eh? It's been around since the 1999 CL.

The front-end point/line runs from the front bumper all the way through (not the roof of course) to the rear bumper on all Acura cars since the CL. It's sort of supposed to be their signature or whatever you want to call it. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Acura designers actually design the car around the point/line. There is more to it than most people know but it's interesting to know how much emphasis the designers put on it.

I not a huge fan of the front end, I hope the next TSX is not going to look like that. It should like just like that Honda Sports 4 concept that came out last year, that was a really nice looking sedan.

Interesting, did not know that. Thanks for the info!

Come to think of it, yeah.. the RSX, EL (Canada-only), TSX and TL have that sharp crease... I thought they were more inclined to call their trapezoidal grille their trademark design or at least the current Acura theme.
