I've already promised you guys that I would review the first Chinese-designed and Chinese-built vehicles to be sold in my area here....as soon as they are available. I'm anxious myself to see how they compare to vehicles from other countries....especially the Koreans.

I wonder how this vehicle would handle on the famous ring compared to the
X3/X5 which it mimics

heh, they have a full blown "DisneyLand" in China that has all the same characters, they have knock off iPhones (which are actually better than the real thing!), they even setup shadow companies that pretend to be real divisions of NEC and make knock off parts etc.

I'm still pissed the Kia in the parking lot looks just like my RX300.

They're not quite "identical". The CEO has fender flares, the BMW has a bulge along the entire length of the vehicle. The CEO's rear side window is angled, the BMW's is flat. The CEO's plate is on the bumper, the BMW's is on the hatch. The CEO's exhaust is below the bumper, the BMW's is integrated.

There's only so much you can do to make your vehicle different. Here's the rear of the RX, in a similar color, at a similar angle.

Swap taillights, and now there's 3 similar looking vehicles.

If you do too much to make your vehicle look different, you end up with this:

I bet they would do it better than BMW. It is the most frustrating thing to deal with when your driving a BMW with one.

Taillights and headlights are usually very signature things on a car that most people notice and use to differentiate between vehicles. There's similar and than there's this. Lots of vehicles out there look similar but they don't normally make an effort to copy a vehicle.

You have to admire the brass neck of the Chinese - it's one thing to copy it for their home market but to then go and show it at the Frankfurt show in Germany...lol.
At least BMW "bought" Land Rover.

And yes, I'd actually say brass ***** though.

If you have a chance, here is a really good article on the Chinese knocking off the iPhone. Very interesting, but long article on Popular Science.

I have a thread specifically on iPhone copies but people are talking about them more in this BMW thread.

Anyone willing to buy an X5 or take their own and rebadge it as the Chinese knock-off version?
