Wow 2012 it seems so far in the future. Just think in 1998 thinking about a lexus in 2012 we would think they start driving themselves and having the internet in the car. now were almost there

Yes it's still too far in the future, & really nothing to envy about in relation to our current ownership of the SC430. If they are to make a SC-F in the future, it will be the next generation with a different body style anyway . . . & a 2012 GS-F will also be the next(4th) generation GS, not the current one.

If it is going to come out around 2012 or even 2010 it had better have closer to 600hp and 500 may not cut by then. You'd have to believe by then BMW, MBZ, and Audi will all have mid-size sedans with around 600hp.

Why would the next-gen GS be MY 2012? I thought Lexus learned their lesson of neglecting their models for too long. I remember Lexus repeatedly saying they would update their cars more often. My guess is next-gen GS comes in 2010 as an MY 2011 model. Also consider that the 2008 GS gets a styling facelift. If we follow traditional Toyota update patterns, a vehicle gets a mid-cycle update in the third year, and by the fifth year the model gets redesigned.

A higher end luxury car should have at least a 6-year cycle (it's usually 7-year cycles for BMW/MB's etc.), so I think 2012 for the 4GS debut is just the right time.
When they said they would update their cars more often, they are NOT talking about a redesign of a new generation with a different body style, just little facelifts & engine/equipment updates like the 06 GS300 to the 07 GS350 with the same body style, as well as updates from RX330 to RX350, ES300 to ES330 with the same body style, etc.

The current 3GS debuted as a 2006 model in Spring 2005, & a 6-year cycle is normal for a mid to high end Lexus model, we are not talking about econo cars here that get redesigned every 4 to 5 years.

Lexus models (with the exception of the LX, SC, and Gen 2 GS) have had 5/6 year model cycles. Just because Benz/BMW sometimes stick to 7 year model cycles does not mean Lexus should. If Lexus can do redesigns in 5/6 year cycles, then they should not stretch it out. The luxury market is getting more (not less) competitive.
You're right. Lexus said they would do updates more often throughout a model's life cycle.
Also something to consider is the multitude of changes that have occured at Toyota concerning quality. It apples to all future Toyota, Scion, and Lexus models. The changes to improve quality include more exact blueprints, and bigger budgets among other things.
Let's hope the 4GS is a big step up over the 3GS so that it will be more competitive in it's segment. The 4GS will also be the 1st Lexus to be a 2nd generation L-Finesse design. That should be very interesting.

To be fair, the Cadillac CTS-V will have over 500HP, Audi's RS6 will have over 500HP and the GS-F is rumoured to have over 500HP. All within the same range of power. The next-gen CTS-V and RS6 don't come out for at least another 1 or 2 years. Next M5 is also rumoured to have over 500HP.
I also don't think the GS-F will interfere with the exclusivity of the LF-A. Current rumours are that the GS-F will have a detuned version of the LF-A's engine.
