Mazda Reports Double Digit Sales Increase for August
- MAZDA3 and CX-7 Pave the Way to 11.0 Percent Increase -
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda North American Operations
(MNAO) today reported its best August since 2003 with U.S. sales of 24,762
units, accounting for an 11.0 percent increase versus the same period last
year. Year-to-date sales of 203,298 are up 7.6 percent year-over-year.
Leading the sales charge were the MAZDA3 and CX-7, both of which
reported double-digit sales increases versus last August. With no customer
cash and only minimal lease and finance support, MAZDA3 celebrated its best
August since launch with sales of 10,511 units, accounting for a 51.1
percent increase versus last year. August also marks the fourth straight
month MAZDA3 sales have eclipsed the 10,500 unit mark. For the year, MAZDA3
sales are up nearly 25 percent.
Mazda's CX-7 continues to post strong sales in the highly competitive
crossover SUV segment as it celebrated its best August since launch with
4,072 units, accounting for an 18.5 percent versus last year. Combined with
the three-row, seven-passenger CX-9, which reported 2,244 units sold this
month, year-to-date sales for Mazda's crossover SUVs total 42,114 units.
"As the summer heats up, so have Mazda sales," said Jim O'Sullivan,
president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations. "Smaller car companies
like Mazda are often more easily affected by the ups and downs of gas
prices, housing values and interest rates. That said, customers continue to
vote with their wallets and that has better positioned us to ride out the
peaks and valleys through the rest of the year and forward."
Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) continues its string of impressive sales
with 1,448 vehicles sold, more than double August 2006. On a year-to-date
basis, MMdM reported 10,081 total sales.
Rounding out North America, Mazda Canada, Inc. reported sales of 8,646
units, accounting for a 4.7 percent decrease versus last year. On a
year-to-date basis, however, sales are up 10.2 percent with 64,038 units
sold.
Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations
oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda
vehicles in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico through
nearly 900 dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc.,
located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in
Mexico City.

Kia Motors America Announces Back to Back Record Sales Months
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Like recent temperatures, sales
continue to be hot for Kia Motors America (KMA) this summer, which today
announced record August sales of 26,874 units for back-to-back months of
record sales and a 7-percent increase over the same period last year. KMA
remains on track toward another annual sales record with year-to-date sales
of 207,956 units, a 5-percent increase over the same period last year.
"Sales of Kia vehicles continue to be hot this summer," declares Len
Hunt, executive vice president and COO of Kia Motors America. "July was a
fantastic month for us with a new sales record in a market that had many
sales leaders showing a decline. To back up July with another record month
in August demonstrates that demand for Kia vehicles continues to grow even
in a volatile market."
The Rio and the Sportage also had strong August sales. Rio saw 3,017
units sold, while Sportage sold 4,109 units, both increases over the same
period last year.

Acura Needs something fresh. The acura SUVs are what's holding the brand together. It's the CARS that needs to be sold. If you're a luxury brand company, you want your name to be known for the cars, not the suv.
I'm surprised, however, that the Accord sold a good ~5k more than the camry this month. The Accord is at the very very end of its cycle, and the Accord fleet rate is quite a bit lower than the Camry's.
Anyone know why they still list the RSX under Acura? That car was discontinued long time ago.

Have you seen the deals on '07 Accords? Every local Honda dealership has been advertising end of model year sales events in the papers. I've seen an internet price of under $23,000 for a new V6 Accord EX Sedan w/ Auto. There are similarly large discounts for all Accord trims including EX w/ Nav.

What's the deal on the new Highlander? Highlander sales were down again in August. The Pilot also took a huge dive in August, down 50%. Interesting that the the new Ford Edge outsold the Highlander and the Pilot.

What a strange month it was. GM, Nissan, Honda were all UP and yet Toyota sales were down?
Looks like the "subprime squeeze" and credit problems that people are having affected sales in August. It seems to me that consumers were a lot more sensitive to prices and incentives this month. Toyota was the only major automaker with incentives under $1000 according to Edmunds, so it looks like that certainly played a part.
This sensitivity seems to have been especially visible in the truck market. GM gave a nice boost for truck incentives in August and Sierra/Silverado sales were up. Toyota lowered Tundra incentives and sales dropped a bit. Sales were still solid at 19K units even with lower incentives.
This also shows GM is not sticking to it's promises. GM boasted how they would reduce incentives but so far that has not happened.
What we need to see is September sales figures; that will confirm whether or not incentives are becoming a bigger factor for consumers or whether August was simply an exception.
Quite shocking that the Accord outsold the Camry this month, but the old Accord is on it's way out and fact is Honda focused most of their incentives on the Accord this month. Next month Accord sales will drop back down to more realistic levels with the new model coming out and incentives decreasing. What I find most ironic is that even though Honda sales were UP, Civic sales were down. So much for all the talk about the huge consumer demand for the Civic
. Just as I suspected, Civic demand was over-estimated by some. The (old and aging) Corolla managed to outsell the Civic this month. My guess is that the Mazda 3 may be eating into Civic sales a bit. Both Civic and Mazda 3 are sporty compacts and essentially fighting for the same customers. The Corolla is more about comfort and fuel economy.
Lexus sales were up though this month and look stronger than ever. IS outsold the G sedan and the GS outsold the Infiniti M (again). Year-to-date, GS sales are now ahead of the Infiniti M. Acura sales are a mess. RL sales are a complete embarassment. Lexus has sold more LS models in 2 months than Acura has sold RLs so far this year![Egads!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/pat.gif)
.
The new Highlander only went on sale at the end of July. Some dealers and regions only started receiving their first Highlanders in the middle of August. Give it a month or two.

Observations:
Lexus, lol, the SC is getting very long in the tooth. Good news is ES/IS/LS up YTD. GS is down but now passing the M35/45. RX had a strong month, I wonder if "the event" has spurred some sales. Lexus is up 11k units this year on the way to another record breaking sales year, even with the SUVs down. Smart strategy.
AMAZING, the top of the line LS is outselling the GS by a wide margin. WOW. That is something.
Audi, fooling themselves as well. Everything down but the Q7. Lexus sells as many LSs as all variants of the A4. Overall this company has sold 60k cars so far. Lexus has sold 54k ES's thus far. Even with all new improving products and lineup, Audi simply cannot catch on in America. Sad.
Acura down for the year. Brand new MDX only up 12% ytd over last year. RDX is picking up but nothing to write home about. TL and TSX are down but older so not that big of an issue, though both got refreshes. Can the RL, its embarrassing. 122k sold this year.
Infiniti up for the year only b/c the G35 is. Everything else is down and even with sales up overall, they only grew 5k units and will not be near their best years. EX is going to help sales but like Acura, they will have a new cute ute with no other new products. 83k sold so far this year.
Jaguar, can them. Its embarrassing. I feel sorry for this brand, I want it to succeed so bad and they cannot be given away. SO SAD![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Jaguar has sold 11k cars this year. The RX I believe hit 11k in A MONTH this year. So sad. PORSCHE sold twice as many cars as Jaguar. Think about that.
Volvo, another greatly improved product and lineup. EVERYTHING is down
Down for the year
72k units sold this year. C30 should help, C70 and S80 up for the year. This is a very good product.
BMW big month, up for the month and year. 195k sold this year, up fro 179k, good job. 3 and 5 doing SUPERB. They are selling only 400 less V-8 X5s than I-6 ones!
Benz- flat month, flat for the year, only up what 600 units.R class is a flop. GL and ML doing good for them last month.
This is the 2nd month in a row I am saying it. Clearly in our current economic climate, those with money are fine. Look at sales of the more expensive cars in a brand, doing fine from Lexus, BMW, Benz. Wow.
