Default Dealers selling out of Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

If a company is going to have a problem, this is the kind of problem it wants to have -- even though it's still... a problem. Mitsubishi expected the mid-level Lancer ES to account for the bulk of Stateside sales. Buyers, though, are all about the $18,115 Lancer GTS, making them 60% of sales. The GTS rides above the ES with bigger wheels and brakes and a sport suspension, as well as body mods that make it look faster, if nothing else.

Total Lancer sales through July of this year were 20,816, which included the last of the previous generation. After launching sales of the new Lancer in the US, it is also now being sold in Russia and Japan. In response to the demand for the GTS model, Mitsubishi has actually canceled 1,700 orders for the GTS placed by US dealers. The only option left for dealers until the end of November: order an ES and get a GTS later, which doesn't seem like much of an option for dealers or buyers.

This and the new Outlander just saved Mitsubishi. I recall a couple of years ago Mercedes sold there share because Mitsu was on the brink of filing bankrupt. I honestly thought they wouldn't be here by MY08 but I guess they are hanging in.

I saw a silver one parked at my offices and thought it looked like a really interesting car. Didn't know too much of it's performance and frankly I was disapointed by the commercial I saw of it earlier in the year.

"Why did we give the new Lancer Magnesium Paddle shifters?" WTF? Paddle Shifters?!!?!?

I'm glad Mitsubishi made this turn around. When I saw the Outlander and Lancer, I really wanted them to succeed, because they represented a good effort to change. Hopefully, the reliability will be good as well. The looks are stunning, for sure.

When any car company does something new or makes a genuine effort, I like it to do well. I think cars like the Saturn Aura/Pontiac G6 best represent this for GM, although admittedly they just took it from the Opel Vectra platform.

This really is good news for them. I always had a feeling that they would pull through.

I like the GTS. A distant friend just picked one up. Those 18in wheels really fill in the wheel wells quite nicely.

Relax. The Evo X is on its way.....and it will no doubt put a healthy-sized dent in GTS sales, especially considering the fact that Mitsubishi, like Subaru with the new WRX, has tried to make the car a little more civil, refinement-wise, and appeal to a little more than just the young, male, caps-on-backwards crowd. Both cars have the same or greater power then their predecessors but ride a little better, have less-confining seats, and better-quality interiors.
