Default Audi R8 Wins Again-Jeremy Clarkson Picks Audi R8 over World-class Competition(Page 2)

This week’s Autocar magazine is an unmissable one; it’s our annual Best Handling Car issue. We've taken the 10 best driver’s cars of 2007 and pitted them against each other on a 1.41-mile dry track, a twisty 0.77-mile wet track and on the road; it’s the most comprehensive performance group test Autocar has ever produced. And the winner might just surprise you.

BMW’s new M3, the Lotus 2-Eleven, Porsche's 911 GT3 RS and Lamborghini's LP640 were all part of the three-day speed fest, held at and around MotorSport Vision’s Bedford Autodrome circuit. Also tested were Porsche’s Cayman S, Renault’s Megane R26, Mercedes' SLK55 AMG Black Series and a Mercedes C350 Sport. A Ford Mondeo 2.5T was even in the hunt; see our gallery for pictures of the runners.

Audi’s excellent R8 ended up beating all-comers to the honours, with its combination of an excellent chassis, incredible traction in all weather, and fine everday usability. For the full breakdown of figures, get Autocar magazine, out today.

We’ve also got video on every single entrant in the Best Driver’s Car of 2007, plus footage showing how we sorted the best from the rest: click the links below to watch each one.

The GT3 is one of the most hardcore race-prepp'ed cars you can buy . For another car to beat it, that really says something!

I've seen a few R8s on the roads around here now - wow they are some beast. I nearly drove off the road watching one in my rear view mirror.

Wow, the C350 is in this list. Where is the BMW 3 series? Only in M3 guise. THAT is surprising.

I'm not surprised. Audi has the total package with the R8.

In C&D's recent comparo of 911 Turbo, Audi R8 and an Aston, the R8 won hands down.

One thing they really love is how neutral and easy to drive it is. What does that remind you of? To me - the Acura NSX!

I *really* hope this new R8 puts Audi more firmly on the map - it's a fabulous car, mid-engine, AWD that's 65% rear-biased, great power, great looks, great interior, great handling, steering, brakes, etc.

C350 is in there but no 335i?

The list must be wrong then.

Mondeo beats SLK55?
wow lol

but how does R8 beat GT3 RS in terms of performance???
thats impossible!

unless they take in comfort and money value into this ranking too

edit: i just watched the video
no wonder why they gave R8 the best ranking
its a wet track that they tested on
so AWD did the best...

here is the test video
