I think it's a fairly "common" swap for the RX-7. My friend's friend did it and there were a few others around who had it as well. I think if it has wheels and drives, there has been a 2JZor LS1 in it at some point... haha

nice! LS1 engine is a beast. You can make good NA power with it. hell, slap on a turbo and you'll have one of the most powerful street engines around.

I give props to the guy who is doing the swap. Very brave to be the guinnea pig.

My bodyshop guy has a Miata with a supercharged 306 motor in it (saw it when I dropped off my car last week). Sick sick sick... it's around 475rwhp, think he said it weighs about 2200 lbs.

Heh... I'll betcha the off-idle torque in that car literally just quadrupled. And I mean literally.

What is a "306 motor"?

Small block ford v8 306 CID (bored out 302).

Doing a little digging it seems like a fairly popular swap. Here's one (not his) on cardomain with what looks to be a similar setup.

Interesting... I didn't realize that people often took the Ford 302 and bored it out to 306CI, or at least not enough to refer to it as such.

Power to weight anyone?

That can't handle well with that much offset in the nose.

The LS1 is 457 pounds fully dressed (all accessories, liquids, etc)

I don't think the S2000's motor could weigh a whole lot less than that. Anyone know? I mean absolute most extreme case scenario I'd have to assume 100 pounds lighter.

OHC motors are generally physically significantly larger per # of cylinders than OHV. The LSx is also an aluminum block motor. Not sure what kind of block the S2000's motor uses.
