It will come in a coupe version as 128i and 135i models. 135i will have the same engine as 335i, but it will be lighter, and its 0-60MPH is claimed to be 4.5 sec.
Here is a discussion of C&D article about it on BMW forum:

Why does it surprise you? With the same engine and less weight obviously it will be faster than 335i. Cheaper? Yes, it will be less luxury with possibly less features. Not much cheaper though, maybe by 2-3 grands.

Well no s..t sherlock. Would BMW allow that though? That's why i'm skeptical, not surprised.

Well BMW uses the TT motor in the 5 Series now and Im sure it's not faster than the 3 yet costs more. Also, they used the previous gen 3.0l NA in both the 3 Series and 5 Series, and the 3 was faster and cheaper, so why would they not allow this to happen with the 1 Series with the current TT motor and the 1 Series?

Because all the poseurs will drop the 3 series like a fly. The difference in price between the 5 and 3 will be much greater than the 3 and the 1.

Granted that may be true, but if BMW is hoping to capture the lower market with the 1 series, I dont think that will matter. Why sell the 1 at all then? You know, as well as others, many who own 3s would have bought 1s if they were available to them so why not try to squeeze another few thousand out of them? Perhaps making the 135 and 3 series relatively close in price will encourage people to spend a bit more to get the 3. The 1 will probably cannibalize 3 sales a bit anyway so I see nothing wrong with this.

True but the RWD 1 series eat too much into interior space. I guess I'm spoiled with my large-interior-for-a-small-car Prius.

While the 130i and 135i do look great on paper, it's not the BMW I'd pick. I'll take an E46 anyday over most of the new BMWs.

Don't get me wrong, I really do like the 1-series though, perhaps more than the E90/E92. The VW Rabbit doesn't really cut it for me and I don't know why. It's a solid car, but it was just too "no-frills" for my taste. No steering wheel button controls, an interior that doesn't look right, and a coarse engine that doesn't really want to rev.

I'll go with Jeremy Clarkson on this one.
"I’m choosing the words for my conclusion with even more care than usual. So here goes. The 1-series is crap."

Like I said earlier nothing special. Any of you who go across the border can take test drives of the 1-series in Mexico and see for yourself.
