Default Move over Bugatti Veyron! New king of the road - SSC Aero breaks record!!

WEST RICHLAND, WA (SEPT 13, 2007) - Shelby Supercars (SSC), manufacturer of the ultra high-performance Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo, set the new "World's Fastest Production Car" record earlier today with an average top speed of 255.83 mph. Confident of the 1183 hp vehicle's abilities, SSC set out to validate their top speed claim in accordance with the strict guidelines set by Guinness World Records. Among other requirements, in order to meet Guinness' approval, a vehicle testing for the top speed record must race down the course, turn around, and make a second pass in the opposite direction within one hour.

The vehicle's "top speed" is calculated by averaging the top speeds of each pass in order to negate any favorable road or weather conditions. Today, on a temporarily-closed 2 lane stretch of public highway in Washington State, the Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.11 mph (413.83 kph) on its first pass and 254.55 mph (409.71 kph) on its return pass to set the new top speed record at a staggering 255.83 mph (411.76 kph). The data, collected by Dewetron's world-renowned GPS tracking system, and other checks will be verified by Guinness before the Ultimate Aero is officially crowned the "World's Fastest Production Car." This breaks the current official record held by the Koenigsegg CCR at 242 mph by 11.83 mph and the Bugatti Veyron's unofficial speed of 253 mph by 3.11 mph

So, wait... the 253 mark set by the Veyron is not "official" because they didn't turn around and run it the other way...

I wonder how many bugs the side vents caught during that top speed run

Man, all those millions of dollars and years of development and the Veyron gets toppled in less than a year by this kit-car looking machine. Kind of sad lol

Looks like a bad 80's creation.

It's no Bugatti Veyron.........

Admittedly either way you couldn't squeeze a BB out of my azz for 20 mins after getting out of either car.

I actually prefer the look of the Aero over the Veryon but that's just me. The Aero's shape kinda reminds me of a Diablo with a Koenigsegg rear.

Pretty neat car. Even if it's not as 'nice' as the Veyron, it costs well less than half what the veyron does. I'm also willing to bet it has a significantly lower cost of maintenance and repairs since the drivetrain is a much simpler American GM pushrod V8 and far fewer automated pricey 'tricks' to break.

As others have mentioned, the Veyron is actually electronically limited as shocking as that sounds. The Veyron is capable of about 450 km/h which equates to roughly 279 mph. The reason the Veyron is limited is because Bugatti wants the car to still be stable and safe at such a high speed. Going above the limited top speed would push the limits of what the tires can do. If fitted with better tires, than yes the Veyron can go faster than this SSC Aero.

It's true that it's electronically limited to 253mph, however I've heard that the theoretical top speed is 257 mph... only 4mph higher. What is your source for 279 mph? If you watch it on top gear it takes quite a while to hit 253 mph.. that last little stretch it is really pushing it to make it there. Asking for 26 more mph at that kind of speed is just not possible based on what I saw.
