Default $1900 dollars worth of damage on a BMW

I parked my X3 at the underground garage that I've been using for years near my job, and discovered damage to the rear bumper when I arrived home. I did not inspect the car at the garage on the day of the incident. Heck, I do not expect any damage to my vehicle since it is parked in a paid monthly space, so I did not think I neede to do a walk-around. I need to order bumperpads asap for both the X3 & 335.. The 335 is at the very same garage now, but I parked it myself to be assured that no damage will be done to that car. Took the X3 to the dealer body shop Wednsday, and the estimate that i was given for the repair was $1982.00. My insurance deductable is 1000 bucks.. I know If I report this incident to Geico, my insurance premium may go up.. (crooked insurance companies).. I will be writing the garage management a nice letter. Anywho, here are pics of $1982.00 worth of damage. Looks like the valet hit a concrete pilar while backing up the car into the space.

Ouch, that sucks DASH.

Someone tell me if it's wrong to use some body filler and repaint it again, since bumper is still intact? Cheaper than your $1000 deductible???

For one thing, dealer is not going to give you a cheap estimate.

Yeah, looks to me like they'll be replacing the bumper cover and doing a bit of metalwork on the tailgate (I assume that's steel, not too familiar with the X3).

Check around to see if there's a non-dealer bodyshop that specializes in European cars. My 323i got sent to one after it was stolen and the entire left side was wrecked. I think the bill came to about $9,000, but you absolutely cannot tell they did anything. If the dealer body shop had given the estimate, the car would have been written off (which I actually would have preferred at the time).

not worth reporting to the insurance. A skilled body shop maybe able to do something instead of replacing the entire piece

Bummer.

If it were me, I wouldn't fix it.

No car has that much of a straight edge meaning it had to be driven into an object rather that something backing into it so whoever drove it last did it. That's who pays. It could only be caused my backing into a stationary object with a solid straight edge and you should be able to match it pretty easily to the surroundings and the last person in it.

My 2520$ damage on our E70 X5 looks a lot worse than that.

Go to a different shop.

No it won't - you were not in the car at the time when it was damaged, so they cannot put you at fault, hence they can't raise your premium. At least that's the way it works here in CA.
Now, if this happens every Tuesday, then your premium might go up. Otherwise, I would not worry about it.

I am assuming that you have proof that your car was in the garage (bill for the monthly parking , etc.)? Is it a custom for employees to park cars? If so, then, you're blameless here - they can't pin anything on you.

Sorry to see that, I wouldn't fix unless it got hit again and it looked worse.

Aw man that sucks. Try to find somewhere else that charges a bit less if you can. I'd try to get the valet or garage company to pick up the tab, since you didn't do it.

This is why I don't trust valets.

Thanks guys. The X3 only has 4900 miles and I don't want the repair done with bondo. I will have to fork out 1k to cover my deductable. I just want the car the way it was before the hit. The Dealer bodyshop will be replacing the entire bumper and other pieces and blending in the paint. Took the car to the Gieco insurance adjuster this morning and here is the rundown.
