But seriously, Hot Rod did shoot a 70's era Mustang in Rust Oleum cut down with paint thinner and it turned out good according to them and they even polished it.

After prepping and masking the rusted wheels I shot on a thin coat of RustOleum primer and two coats of black Krylon. While the mission was to stop the corrodamonster, the result wasn't too bad. Besides, those $34 (for four) ABS plastic wheel covers cover it up nicely.
there is a guy on the net that paints his classics with a roller and cheap paint! He wet sands after every coat and you would think the damn things were show cars!
