Default Ferrari Bringing Folding Hardtop F430 GT California to Detroit Motor Show

Ferrari joins folding hard-top gang with 430

21 Sep 07 16:43

Ferrari F430 Spider

Ferrari is to launch a 2+2 coupe-cabriolet with a folding hard-top roof at the Detroit Motor Show next January, according to Italiaspeed.com.

The 'F149' 430 GT California, styled by Pininfarina, has a 450bhp version of the direct-injection 4.3 V8 engine, and the F1 'Superfast' sequential-shift gearbox as in the F430 Scuderia launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show, although manual transmission will be optional.

It is thought to have a new-generation version of the F430 family's aluminium spaceframe, updated and strengthened to accommodate the roof structure and to provide optimum rigidity roof-down, and to even have a small pair of rear seats, thanks to repositioning of the engine - this model is front-engined, says Italiaspeed.

The 430 GT California will be marketed as a rival for the likes of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and will be significantly cheaper than the F430 Berlinetta and Spider - prices will start from €130,000.

Italiaspeed says that this model is not the so-called 'new Dino', however: it predicts that this 2+2 coupe model, to be the cheapest upcoming Ferrari yet, will follow in 2009, with a 350bhp mid-mounted 3.5-litre V6, and a price tag from around €100,000.

Thank you!!! Geez...I was wondering when they'd do that. It looks horrible to me. I see it everyday, as my neighbor owns one, and it looks retarded with the top up. I seriously hope he trades his in for a hard top

Did anybody read the interview with the CEO of Ferrari in Motor Trend a few months back? I thought he said that they weren't doing a car below the F430 with a Ferrari badge on it. He said that rumor that was circulating was false... I guess we will see.

Post Ferrari F430 GT California

The 2008 Ferrari F430 GT California will be designed by Pininfarina and will feature the latest version of the F430 family’s aluminium spaceframe.

Under the hood of the F430 GT California you will see a 4.3 liter V8 direct injection engine with an output of 450 hp. It will feature the same F1 "Superfast" sequential-shift gearbox as in the F430 Scuderia and the manual gearbox will be offered as an option.

The F430 GT California will hit a top speed of 310 km/h (or 192 mph).

Yeah I was wondering about the same thing. If it's massaged into an FR configuration then it isn't at all an F430 anymore. They should name it something completely different.

I doubt it's going to keep that name, regardless of what the current article states.
