If the GT-R can beat a 911 Turbo around the track and can rival the Carrera-GT, I do not think that "it's very likely" that the LF-A will beat the GT-R on the track. We'll see though.

We'll also see what an LF-A costs. If it's way more than the GT-R it better give lapdances as well.

Isn't the current speculation that the GT-R will be about $70k and the LF-A will be about $110k?

By no means am I dissing on the LF-A or ANY Lexus so let me make that VERY plain. Lexus makes a SOLID automobile and let's not forget I was a satisfied owner for years. BUT... I also will give props to OTHER manufacturers when they are do!
That being said... For the $, Nissan will easily (from what we see and read) be a Giant-Killer. Am I expecting the lap-o-luxury from such a performance-minded purpose-built car branded as a Nissan? No!
I'm also NOT expecting the LF-A, V10 and all, to out-handle the car we are reading about here! It may not even out-accellerate it. Top-End? Maybe. The Lexus IMO will be a Grand-Tourer with solid perfromance skills. And it will be much heavier than 3,500 lbs when all is said and done.
I wouldn't even start hyping the Super-Lex up til we read info like this of posted times at The Ring.

I doubt the LF-A is heavier, it won't have AWD for instance and might be built with materials like carbon fiber.

The GT-R and LF-A will be two different interpretations. The GT-R is a techno tour de force with a great price and likely, rough edges. The LF-A is smaller (shorter than a 911) with a N/A V-10 or hybrid option and more pure in feel, being RWD.

The GT-R at 70k is just wow, once people can get past looks (if they don't like it) or the badge. People rarely drop over 50k for an Infiniti, not sure if a 70k Nissan will sell. Hell the Acura NSX sold poorly after the first couple years.

I do hope people LOOK PAST the badge and give the GT-R a chance.

That's all based on an "IF". We don't even know yet IF the GT-R is faster than a 997 Turbo around the track, and I highly doubt the GT-R will rival a Carerra GT around the track. But I agree, we'll see.

You are making a whole lot of assumptions while knowing very little about the LF-A. Have you even seen the spy videos of the LF-A at the 'Ring? If you have, then it's quite clear that the car will be definitely MORE than just a "Grand Tourer with solid performance skills". The SC is a Grand Tourer. The LF-A is going to be a supercar and nothing less. Just wait and see. I am very confident that the LF-A production car will shock us all, myself included.

Heavier than 3500lbs? That's a HUGE assumption. The LF-A in dimensions is smaller than a 911. Rumours are that Lexus is aiming for a curb weight under 3000 lbs and over 550HP from the V10. I doubt that even the rumoured hybrid model of the LF-A will weight over 3500lbs.

In the next few weeks we should see some info from Lexus about the LF-A that will hopefully end some of this silly speculation .

Hasn't it been pretty much confirmed more than a few times already the GT-R is beating the Porsche Turbo around the track? I too have my doubts about beating the Carerra GT around a track or anywhere else for that matter, but we'll see I guess. Being faster than a Porsche Turbo while being cheaper is still a pretty good accomplishment IMO.

Sorry I didn't check back on this thread earlier.

Yeah, I'll get in on that bet. I bet the GT-R will NOT rival the Carrera GT (aside from Nissan's own marketing spin) and that the LF-A will soundly beat the GT-R around ANY track (except in the wet).

Maybe the Evo model would step the game up enough (3100-3400lbs, 530hp), coupled with its awd to do some very close laptimes, but NO 3500-3800lb, 480hp car (that isn't a ringer modified to 600+hp) will do those sort of laptimes.

I have a huge amount of respect for the GT-R, but lets be realistic here. V10 + sub 3000lb chassis > turbo v6 with 3500lb+ chassis. Period.

p.s. the Supra held its own against the GT-R ANYWHERE...the awd system of the GT-R give it a huge advantage, and the Supra was still able to keep up. Not bad for a Z competitor huh?

At launch you never see a car and it's higher trims immediately. Imagine if the M3 was launched with the CSL at the same time.

Mike the GT-R is supposed to use exotic materials as well.

Let's just wait and see shall we? Paper specs are only as good as they translate into real performance. And right now we have more info on the Gt-R than the LF-A (and why are these 2 cars being compared anyway?)

It could go either way. Noone can talk with any real confidence about the dominance of either car at this point.
